As the world bunkers down in their homes—viral videos have doubled since people are unable to leave due to statewide stay at home orders.
Everyone ranging from working class people to celebrities, to even politicians have joined in on the video craze as people participate in social media challenges, uploading funny skits—and just socializing with one another the best way they know how.
On Wednesday, singer Ari Lennox decided to add some humor to her fans lives by trying to install a lace-front wig and it seems it went left.
Never missing an opportunity to show his misogynistic side, rapper Snoop Dogg felt the need to comment on her post and she quickly let him know she was not going to be the next black woman he came for on Instagram.
Since her emergence onto the scene, the Dreamville artist has been known for uploading hilarious video content onto Instagram. Fans of the artist realized through her narration she was being funny; however, it was apparent Snoop Dogg did not get the memo.
As Ari tried her darndest to install the wig, she jokingly said, “So I guess I gotta cut more lace? Where am I supposed—WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO GET A WIG CAP?”
Beneath the picture captured by The Shade Room, the West coast rapper commented, “Grow your hair… what happened to those days.” Immediately following his comment, fans began to slam the rapper for making a light-hearted situation more serious than it needed to be.
After seeing the comment, Lennox responded to the rapper by posting a picture of him in a wig captioning it with, “Uncle I just… I just thought we had and understanding…”
Still, Snoop’s comment wouldn’t be the first time he’s been publicly bashed for being misogynistic towards black women.
In January, Snoop Dogg was wrapped up in a PR nightmare after he made several derogatory comments towards CBS This Morning host, Gayle King. His comments came after King asked WNBA star Lisa Leslie about Kobe Bryant’s sexual assault case during an interview immediately after his tragic death.
The rap icon eventually apologized to King for his comments, though shortly after, he inserted himself again on 50 Cent’s post about Oprah Winfrey after she fell onstage during her 2020 Vision Tour.
Fans instantly came to Ari’s defense beneath her post and The Shade Room’s post reminding the rapper that she has always proudly rocked her natural hair—which could be send in any of the photos she has uploaded on Instagram.
Lennox’s Twitter fans even rushed to her defense. One user tweeted, “This is how you know Snoop don’t even KNOW who Ari Lennox is, cuz Ari has a WHOLE AFRO of natural hair. She’s prolly worn wigs 3x TOPS. Defending a man who wouldn’t even keep scrolling for you.”
