Harry Potter fans have a big reason to celebrate this year!
As The Blast previously reported, “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone” first premiered on November 14, 2001, which makes the film officially over 20 years old. At the time, it was rumored that a special Harry Potter reunion featuring most of the cast members was in the works.
Although Tom Felton, who played Draco Malfoy, was all for it, it was uncertain whether or not Warner Brothers could secure Hermione Granger (Emma Watson), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint), or Harry Potter himself (Daniel Radcliffe).
Now it’s official: the main cast will join filmmaker Chris Columbus and other cast members from all eight of the “Harry Potter” movies in a “Return to Hogwarts” special to celebrate the franchise’s very first film.

Other members of the cast that will be included in the special are Helena Bonham Carter, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Jason Isaacs, Gary Oldman, Imelda Staunton, James Phelps, Oliver Phelps, Mark Williams, Bonnie Wright, Alfred Enoch, Matthew Lewis, Evanna Lynch, and IanHart.
The special will also be released on TBS and Cartoon Network ahead of “Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore,” which has an expected theatrical release date of April 15, 2022.
President of Warner Bros. Global Kids, Tom Ascheim, told Variety that “it has been an incredible journey since the debut of the ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ film, and witnessing how it has evolved into this remarkable interconnected universe has been magical to say the least.”
He added, “This retrospective is a tribute to everyone whose lives were touched by this cultural phenomenon — from the talented cast and crew who poured their heart and soul into this extraordinary film franchise to the passionate fans who continue to keep the Wizarding World spirit alive 20 years later.”

For younger fans who are twenty-years-old and younger, they have never grown up in a world without Harry Potter.
“i have been watching harry potter movies since i was what 2 or 3?idk it has been such a huge part of me,” one fan tweeted. “whenever i wanted or want to escape from everything i watch/read hp. it's just EVERYTHING to me. i never expected a reunion BUT WE ARE GETTING A REUNION.”
“SHUT UP WAIT IS THERE A HARRY POTTeR REUNiON JANuARY FIRST!!! I have chills,” another shared.
“AHHH! I've never been more excited for 2022!! The OG 'Harry Potter' characters are coming together for a reunion!” another wrote.
However, some fans were not looking forward to the reunion, and even calling for a boycott of the special. The creator of the series, author J.K. Rowling, has been in hot water with fans ever since she posted a series of controversial tweets about the transgender community in a 2020 Twitter thread. It is unclear if she will be involved with the special in any way.
“Guys, I know we all hate Jk Rowling, but I feel like Emma, Dan, and Rupert are doing this reunion for us, and the sake of Harry Potter which they loved even if it was written by a bad person,” one fan tweeted. “Y’all really think Emma Watson would choose money over her morals? I don’t think so.”
