Now that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are officially no longer a part of the royal family, their future is much more uncertain than it's been since they announced their engagement. In spite of all that uncertainty, though, the couple is reportedly excited about what the future holds.

“They are positive about the future,” a source told People. “It is an exciting new chapter for them to mark the end of the transition and the official start of their new chapter.”

In March, the couple moved to Los Angeles from Canada before all flights between the two countries were canceled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. “Like everyone, they are adjusting to [social distancing], being cautious and safe,” the source continued.

Their new status as independent people began today, as their roles as members of the royal family was set to end on March 31. In a post on Instagram, the couple bid their followers a temporary farewell as they go through this transition.

“While you may not see us here, the work continues,” they wrote in the post. “Thank you to this community – for the support, the inspiration and the shared commitment to the good in the world. We look forward to reconnecting with you soon. You’ve been great!”

According to People, the couple is planning to spend the next few months determining the best ways for them to make a difference in their new roles outside of the official hierarchy of the royal family.

“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will spend the next few months focusing on their family and continuing to do what they can, safely and privately, to support and work with their pre-existing charitable commitments while developing their future nonprofit organization,” a spokesperson from Buckingham Palace said.

In the meantime, the couple is dealing with the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic like everyone else. In posts on Instagram, they have worked to comfort their followers who may be concerned about the uncertainty around the pandemic.

"Around the world, the response from people in every walk of life, to protect and look out for their communities has been inspiring," the post said. "None more so than the brave and dedicated healthcare workers on the frontline, risking their own well-being to care for the sick and fight COVID-19. Wherever you are in the world, we are all incredibly grateful."

Now that they've settled into their lives in Los Angeles, it'll be fascinating to see what their next move is.
