A few years ago, Tom Holland was an unknown actor. Now, he’s a Hollywood icon starring in movies alongside Chris Pratt and Zendaya.

The 23-year-old has had quite a career after he landed the role of Peter Parker. He first played the character in the 2016 Marvel movie, Captain America: Civil War. And again in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, and Spider-Man: Far From Home.

But where did Tom Holland come from and how did he rise to fame so quickly?

He Grew Up In England

Holland was born in London, England. His mother is a photographer and his father is a comedian. Growing up, the actor wasn't too interested in acting. Instead, he took dance classes.

“I started dancing because of Janet Jackson. I don’t actually know which song it was. But when I was a baby one of her songs used to send me into a dancing frenzy. My mom thought I had natural rhythm, so she was like, ‘You should go to a dance class,’” Tom explained during an interview with CNET.

He Has A Theater Background

When Tom was 12-years-old, he landed his first lead role.

He played Billy Elliot in the 2008 Billy Elliot Musical in London’s West End. For the role, the actor practiced gymnastics, which came in handy for Spider-Man.

After playing Billy Elliot, the teen appeared in The Impossible movie with Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor. The movie received excellent reviews, with critics praising Holland for his role.

The actor won several awards, including; National Board of Review Award for Breakthrough Performance and London Film Critics Circle Award for Young British Performer of the Year.

His Gymnastics Helped His Career

Before expressing an interest in acting, Tom was a dancer and gymnast. In fact, his gymnastic skills helped him land the spider-man role.

“I was a gymnast when I was a kid, so I did a backflip, just to show Marvel that I could do that sort of stuff. I was like, "Hi, I'm Tom Holland." Backflip. "I'm from London." Side flip. "I'm five-foot-seven." Front flip. I had a lot of fun making those tapes,” Holland told The Hollywood Reporter.

He Wants To Be A Director

Although most of us know him for his appearances in the Marvel movies, Holland has also voiced characters in Spies in Disguise, Dolittle, and Onward.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Tom is worth an estimated $15 million. And chances are, his net worth will grow considering his upcoming plans.

Holland told Interview Magazine, "The 20-year goal is to be a film director. The 15-year goal is to win an Oscar. The five-year goal is to just keep enjoying myself. I really am having the time of my life.”
