Alicia Keys is getting very personal with her fans in her new memoir "More Myself," where she details how she almost opted for an abortion when she learned about her pregnancy in 2014.

The “Karma” singer, who is married to music producer Swizz Beatz - and father of their nine-year-old son Egyot - revealed how she didn’t feel she was ready for another baby upon learning the news.

'This is the worst time ever,' Alicia recalled telling her doctor at the time when she learned about her pregnancy with her son Genesis Ali Dean, 5.

The 39-year-old reveals how she’d been busy working on her sixth album “Here,” so finding out that she was pregnant with her second child completely threw her off-guard.

To make matters worse, Swizz Beatz, real name Kasseem Dean, was commencing his business studies at Harvard, meaning that neither of them were prepared for what was about to come their way.

Needless to say, the Grammy winner stressed that she was “torn” when she left her doctor’s office as she had to choose whether she was going to move ahead with her initial plans of finishing her album or postpone everything so that she can focus her pregnancy.

Here's How She Made Her Decision

“The music I was creating felt more important and urgent than just about everything,” the mother-of-two explained, adding that by delaying the album, she was sure to face several complications along the way.

“I’d have to put off its release for at least a year if I chose to have the baby.”

Alicia made her decision on one particular night when she was in the studio with her husband, listening to a song he had written called “More Than We Know.”

“The lyrics are about how we’re capable of so much more than we can ever imagine. My eyes filled with tears. How could I take away the potential for this beautiful child, this light that could touch others in ways I couldn’t dream of.”

She connected with the lyrics of the song so much that she didn’t even have to rethink her decision of keeping the baby, concluding: “For me, the song was a powerful message that I should go on with the pregnancy.”

Her Next Album Is Coming In May

The “Unthinkable” songstress is expected to release her upcoming seventh studio album “ALICIA” on May 15, after her record label RCA canceled plans to put the project out on March 20.

Keys has already released three singles from her record, including “Show Me Love,” “Time Machine” and “Underdog.”

“The ALICIA album is sooooo crazzzyyyyy!!!! I’m so excited for you to hear it,” Alicia gushed to her fans while talking about new music on Twitter.

“I never realized how much I relied on only one side. How much I had hidden away the parts that expressed anger, rage, sensuality, or vulnerability.”
