It's official. MCU and Robert Downey Jr. have worked out their differences and ironed out the details for Iron Man to be back in the Marvel Universe. And we will be seeing Tony Stark's refined mug in the third Spider-Man movie starring Tom Holland in a cameo. Our questions being, what sort of a cameo will it be? Will it be more of a memory or hallucination on Spider-Man's part? Or will Tony Stark now exist as AI, considering the man himself snapped his fingers into oblivion.

Much like the new Spider-Man being Tony Stark's prodigy, Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr. share a special friendship also. So it was clear that Tony Stark would return only for Holland playing Spidey. The third Spider-Man installment is named Spider-Man 3: Home Run, keeping in line with "home" based names of the first two movies as well. With Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark / Iron Man finally dying in Avengers: Endgame, the cameo has us all trying to figure out how it will play out.

Of course, the details of the movie are still under wraps, and it is slated to hit cinemas in 2021. With all production houses and studios halting shoots because of the Coronavirus pandemic, we wonder if the release dates will actually hold. However, sources indicate that MCU is likely to cannibalize one of the DCEU heroes to play the villain in the MCU! Meaning we may see Aquaman Jason Momoa or Superman Henry Cavill don the role of the baddie in Spider-Man 3.

The Endgame May Not Be The End For Iron Man

Call them cameos or flashbacks, but MCU is trying to keep Tony Stark / Iron Man around in various ways in its upcoming movies. Even Black Widow is likely to have Robert Downey Jr. in it, especially since Black Widow herself died in Avengers: Endgame and the movie is not set in this timeline. Robert Downey Jr. was also there in Spider-Man 2: Far From Home as voiceovers and flashbacks, so its likely that this may carry on till Iron Man continues to be loved by Marvel fans.

Iron Man May Just Be An AI Voice

Much like Tony Stark's father is shown in Iron Man 2 as more of an AI voice, we may just "hear" Iron Man in Spider-Man 3: Home Run without actually getting to see him. And the same is also happening in the new Marvel TV series Ironheart. With everything under wraps and not much clear about what is what for now, especially with production houses on an enforced break, time will tell how Iron Man comes back to the MCU because, without him, things may never be the same again.
