Although Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had been living in Vancouver since January, it was never the couple’s longterm plans to remain in Canada. With Markle revamping her acting career, Los Angeles was the ideal spot to be. Her mother, Doria Ragland, also lives in the area, which was an important factor for the former royal couple and their child, Archie. But with Prince Harry and Meghan making the official move, a royal expert has explained why living in Canada wasn’t going to work out for them, regardless.
When Prince Harry and Meghan first broke the news that they’d be relinquishing their roles as senior members of the royal family and moving across the Atlantic, not much was known about where exactly they would land.
And although Vancouver seemed to be a place where they were happy, it wasn’t in their longterm plans to remain there. Fortunately for the couple, though, they were able to cross the border from Canada to the United States before it was shut down, a plan that was put in place to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus during the outbreak.

“Harry and Meghan have left Canada now for good. The borders were closing and flights were stopping. They had to get out,” an insider close to the couple told The Sun this past week. “But this move was planned for some time. They realized Canada would not work out for various reasons and they want to be based in the Los Angeles area.”
According to royal experts, the move to Los Angeles makes so much sense for what the couple is trying to accomplish. Between Markle getting back into acting and their new brand needing fertile ground to grow, California was the best option.

“In a way it’s exchanging one goldfish bowl for another but it’s a city where Meghan has deep personal and professional connections,” Arthur Edwards, a royal photographer said about the couple’s recent move to Los Angeles. “In LA they’ll be close to Meghan’s mum Doria – her only family member at her wedding to Harry – who will love having Archie so close.”
A source speaking with Express Magazine explained that Markle’s PR team is centered out of Los Angeles, as are some of their closest celebrity friends like Oprah Winfrey and Ellen Degeneres, further making the move a smart one.
And although Prince Harry and Meghan are in Los Angeles, they’re not taking any risks as it pertains to the COVID-19 outbreak. To assist with their charity while self-quarantining, they’ve hired a staffer to run their organization. According to a leaked email, that staffer is no other than Catherine St-Laurent, the former head of Bill and Melinda Gates‘ foundation.
“Beginning next week I will be acting as Chief of Staff and Executive Director of the new non-profit enterprise for Meghan M and Harry,” St-Laurent explained in the email. “They are embarking on a new chapter themselves and I am thrilled to be able to play a supporting role in realizing their vision and enabling them to achieve impact on the issues that matter most to them,”
