As we all know, Ben Higgins starred on The Bachelor after being a runner-up on Becca Kufrin's season of The Bachelorette. While searching for his soul mate on the show, Higgins was caught between two women, Jojo Fletcher and Lauren Bushnell. he ended up choosing Bushnell, and the two were actually engaged for a while-- they even had their own spinoff show, Ben and Lauren: Happily Ever After? They stayed together until 2017, and Bushnell is now married to country singer Chris Lane.

When Higgins made his relationship with Clarke public on his Instagram account, he also revealed how they met: "I successfully slid into her Dm’s a few months ago," he revealed. "I took a risk and I am glad I did. She is someone special, and I look forward to where life is going to take us. Stay tuned for the journey." Looks like Higgins was looking for a low-profile alternative to the way in which he met his first fiancée, and it worked out for him.

His Original Plans Were Derailed

Originally, Higgins had planned to propose to Clarke in Central Park, but had to relocate because of the coronavirus spread. Instead, Higgins chose a small pond near Clarke's family home in Tennessee. This was, in some ways, an even better location, as her family was able to be present for the event. "I proposed and her family and mine were watching from a distance, and then we all celebrated together," Higgins told ET Online. He also mentioned that both of them cried, even before the proposal, out of nerves and overwhelming emotion.

Fans Are So Happy for the Couple

When Clarke posted a few photos of the moment Higgins popped the question, people went crazy. Bachelor alums and fans alike shared their congratulations and happiness for the engaged couple. Ashley Iaconetti wrote, "I’m soooo happy for you guys!!! Your love is so beautiful! I’m so glad you found each other! Look at what Instagram did!! Question: How’d he convince you to put jeans on?" Even Higgins' ex, Becca Kufrin, wished the couple happiness, saying "So flipping happy for you two and can’t wait to celebrate with so much champagne! Your love, support and respect for one another is beautiful, and I can’t wait to see where this life will take you together".
