Derick Dillard has not kept quiet about his feelings. It became clear last year that Derick had a big problem with some of the beliefs of his wife’s family. After appearing on the show Counting On, which featured the couple’s wedding and the birth of their first child, Derick has been holding something back. Small remarks would come out on social media, but followers never learned the entire truth.
In a recent interview, Derick shared a lot more about the Duggar family and filming Counting On. So, what did we learn?
The interview was given by Without a Crystal Ball, a YouTuber who has been known for talking about reality shows like Teen Mom. In the interview, Derick spoke about the lack of choice he and Jill were given. They weren’t allowed to announce their engagement or pregnancies on their own time, for instance. They were told, not asked.
Derick said that he and Jill had actually planned on leaving the show much sooner than they did, but they were threatened with a lawsuit if they did.
This brings a lot of questions to the minds of people who have been following this story for a while. Derick and Jill were eventually removed from the show after Derick made derogatory statements on Twitter about a transgender teenager who also appears on TLC. Was this part of a plan to be removed from the show without a lawsuit? Those familiar with the show can only speculate at this point.
After the two were released from filming, Derick took to Twitter to say that and Jill had never been paid for their time on the show. They had essentially been volunteering. He also suggested that Jill’s father, Jim Bob, is the only one actually making money from Counting On.
In the interview, Derick also spoke about his family’s religious beliefs. He revealed that unlike his in-laws, he does not support the religious structure known as IBLP, Institute in Basic Life Principles, which is associated with Bill Gothard. He also separated himself from his in-laws in terms of his ideas about modesty standards, asserting that short hair and pants are not immodest.
Derick also claimed that he does not have a problem with the LGBTQ community, and he also said that one of his friends is a member of the community.
But what about Jill’s family? Last many people heard, Jill and Derick were not allowed at the large family home without the supervision of Jim Bob or Michelle Duggar, her parents.
Derick specifies that he does not have a problem with the Duggars as a whole, but he does feel uncomfortable with certain members of the family. He also implied that there were some lawsuits in the works, but he also claims that there is a lot more information he cannot talk about just yet.
