Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have reportedly poached a staffer from the Bill and Melinda Gates’ Foundation to run their charity, according to Page Six.
“Hours after we confirmed they had fled their Canadian bolthole for a new full-time home in Los Angeles, it was revealed they have hired Catherine St-Laurent as chief of staff and executive director of their nonprofit enterprise,” Page Six reported.
“St-Laurent, a mom of two, is currently director at Pivotal Ventures, Melinda Gates’ women and families foundation.”
The email that Page Six viewed said that St-Laurent told her friends and colleagues: “After nearly 9 years alongside Melinda and the Gates Foundation and Pivotal Ventures teams, I am moving on to begin a new chapter and wanted to make sure to share my contact info so we can stay in touch.
“Beginning next week I will be acting as Chief of Staff and Executive Director of the new non-profit enterprise for Meghan M and Harry,” the former Bill and Melinda Gates staffer said in her email.
“They are embarking on a new chapter themselves and I am thrilled to be able to play a supporting role in realizing their vision and enabling them to achieve impact on the issues that matter most to them.”
The new charity being run by Meghan and Harry is going to be somewhat different than traditional charitable enterprises in a few notable ways, according to a source cited by Page Six. Meghan and Harry are reportedly interested in looking for ways to make a change.
“It’s not likely to be a traditional charity. Harry and Meghan want to find their own way of giving back and new ways to make change,” Page Six reported.
The soon-to-be-retired royal couple fled Canada in the face of the Coronavirus and are reportedly setting up their perminate home in Markles’ previous home of California, reaching the sunny state via private jet, according to Page Six.
“The couple, with their 10-month-old baby, Archie, took a secret flight to the LA area, leaving their recent bolthole on Vancouver Island after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced the country’s borders were closing last week,” the publication reported.
Meghan and Harry are setting up housekeeping near Hollywood, where Meghan used to make a living working as an actress.
“This move was planned for some time. They realized Canada would not work out for various reasons and they want to be based in the Los Angeles area,” The Sun UK first reported.
“They have a big support network there. It’s where their new team of Hollywood agents and PRs and business managers are based. Meghan has lots of friends there and, of course, her mum, Doria,” the paper said.
