When the first season of “Stranger Things” premiered in July 2016, many fans did not know they were about to begin an incredible adventure into the world of the paranormal. Three years after the first season aired, fans are already head over heels with the series.
The Netflix show has had three seasons released on its platform – with increasing ratings for each installment. After its third season, the show got renewed for a fourth one, with the exact date of release undisclosed at that time.

Early November this year, fans began to anticipate the usual tidbits about the show that came with the “Stranger Things” Day on November 6 every year. They were not disappointed as the show’s Twitter account posted a series of juicy info about the upcoming season, including episode titles and a new teaser trailer.
However, the announcement did not contain the specific release date of the next installment. The showrunners merely narrowed down the release to the summer of 2022, and the series’ fan base wasn’t pleased.
Fans Made Some Assumptions
For fans, getting a new installment of their favorite show should not exceed two years. In their minds, this should cover all the production and postproduction processes needed to make the project a success.
Two years plus has passed since the season three finale episode titled “The Battle of Starcourt,” aired on July 4, 2019. Already, fans had begun to tout conjectures about the upcoming series based on the release dates of the previous set of installments.
Some were certain that a New Year’s Day premiere was the real deal, while others thought it might drop on St. Valentine’s Day a year later when the season’s first teaser trailer aired. Among all these speculations, the biggest of the bunch was a spring release.
The rumor gained more ground and started looking plausible when prominent gossip account Deumoix surmised a May 15 date. Despite the differing opinions online, it was clear that everyone expected the series to drop in the first quarter of 2022.
Unfortunately, “Stranger Things” Day set the score straight by revealing a summer release date.
‘Stranger Things’ Season Four Debuts Date
Fans were almost certain that the show was bound to air in the first quarter of 2022. Hence, the proposed summer release date shocked them and spread a feeling of disappointment.
Although the pandemic lockdown was a factor in slowing down production, devotees opined that taking three years to create just a season was on the high side.
In addition, their complaints stemmed from the fact that the show’s protagonists had advanced in age.
“This is one of my favorite shows ever, and I am just disappointed it took them so long and that the actor’s [Noah Schnapp] body has changed so much,” One Redditor posted.
In all, fans felt that the three-year hiatus would not help evoke feelings of nostalgia from an audience.
Viewers Want An Early Summer Release
With a summer release all but confirmed, what is left is figuring out the exact date the series will come to the big screens. Fans already know that summer spans mid-June to mid-September. With this in mind, there is a unanimous prediction for an early summer release.
Fans may get it right if one should consider the release dates of the previous installments. Season three premiered in mid-July, some days after the start of summer. Also, season one debuted during a similar period.
Although season two dropped in October 2017, many have assumed that it only followed that pattern due to Netflix’s desire to quickly follow up the first season’s success with a sequel that would boost the show’s ratings.
Although fans are eager to see this series drop, the ball remains in the showrunners court.
Tid-Bits Of The Next Season
Right off the bat, one major change fans would see will be older child actors. Some cast members are already approaching the twilight of their teenage days, and others have crossed the mark already.
Another expectation that might come true is the addition of new characters to the cast. After season one, the showrunners added new stars that quickly became fan-favorites. Season three also had its batch of fresh faces added to the series.
Supposing this next season follows in the traditions; in that case, fans should expect more talented and admirable actors added to the cast.
One more thing that might be in the mix is a more violent theme. In May 2021, Netflix released a teaser titled “HNL Control Room.” The tense and eerie atmosphere of the two-minute video depicted violence to a degree.
More so, the teaser scene showcased a series of black and white televisions whose blurry look occasionally cleared up to reveal bloody images.
