Priyanka Chopra is definitely interested in parenthood. In a profile with Tatler, the star discussed her plans for starting a family with her husband, Nick Jonas. “Right now, this year’s really packed for me in terms of the work that I’m doing and the work that I’ve taken on,” the star said.

Although she's busy at the moment, Chopra said she had already made very intentional plans to start a family, and said that having a family was one of her priorities.

“Having a family is very important to me and it always has been,” she said.“It is something that I definitely want to do and I’m hoping that whenever God wills it, at the right, opportune time, it’ll happen.”

Like most people, Jonas and Chopra are currently in isolation in response to the coronavirus. As a result, they've apparently been seeing a lot more of each other than they would in a typical week. In normal times, they don't go more than two or three weeks without seeing each other.

“That’s a rule. It’s too hard otherwise, and you’ve got to work on the relationship, to prioritize it,” she said.

Elsewhere in her interview with the magazine, Chopra also discusses her parents, and the role they played in shaping who she is. "‘All my mother’s sisters were academics and my dad was a free-thinking creative, a musician and an artist, as well as a surgeon," she said. "My grandmother – my dad’s mum – always used to say, about me, 'Who’s going to marry her? She can’t cook.'"

Her dad was always willing to stick up for his daughter, though. "And my dad would say, 'I’ll send a cook with her,'" Chopra explained. "She never needs to go into the kitchen.” My mum didn’t know how to cook when she got married. My dad taught her how. And he taught her everything he liked to eat. Clever man."

Chopra also took time to defend beauty pageants as a source of female empowerment, even as they've fallen out of favor in the west .

"It’s something that I’m extremely proud of," Chopra said of her victory in the Miss World pageant. "It gave me a trampoline to my acting career. It gave me a sense of self, a sense of confidence to be able to stand in front of heads of state, to be able to speak in front of media from around the world, and actually know what I’m talking about."

The pageant route has certainly worked for Chopra, even though she no longer competes in them.
