Meghan McCain has finally made her return to ‘The View‘ after being absent for about a week. The co-host had previously announced she and her husband would be expecting a child and that her personal medical professionals had recommended that she practice social-distancing from others amid the coronavirus pandemic, for her sake, and the baby’s. In her first return to the show, McCain was undoubtedly happy to be back on her with her fellow hosts, but something was a bit solemn. According to MCain, it was a bittersweet moment for her in a time where countless people are suffering from the COVID-19 outbreak.
The installment began with the co-hosts congratulating McCain and her husband for the pregnancy announcement. “We’re excited, a little surprised… it’s bittersweet because there’s just a lot of people in a lot of pain right now,” McCain said.
“Obviously, I would prefer to be in the studio with all of you but my doctor recommended against it. I think everyone knows that this has not been a smooth road to motherhood. It’s taken a lot of, physical, mental, emotional strength to get here and I think like a lot of women it wasn’t a straight line. I didn’t know if I ever was going to be a mom.”
The political analyst made further mention of the worry she has while trying to ensure her baby is healthy during the pandemic. For McCain, it’s a troubling time for mothers in the world, as well as, soon-to-be mothers.
As it stands, many partners are not being allowed into delivery rooms to prevent the possible transmission of the coronavirus to newly born infants. McCain knows, though, that other women suffer through greater adversity in other countries, something she believes will be talked about further down the line. “[Mothers] have had babies in much worse conditions,” McCain explained.
“I think there’s going to be a time and a place to talk about this at greater length, but right now I think America just wants to talk about the coronavirus. Thank you to everyone for all the kind words and wishes. Ben and I have been completely overwhelmed with all the kindness,” McCain said.
Whoopi Goldberg was exceedingly congratulatory towards McCain and explained that her pregnancy was doing more for the American people than she or her husband realized. “People are looking for things to celebrate. You’ve just given folks a nice little bump of celebration, so it’s a good thing,” Goldberg said enthusiastically.
McCain then shared that Whoopi had predicted her pregnancy only one year before. “Whoopi said this to me. Whoopi told me like a year ago that I was going to have a child and she told me the gender,” McCain shared on the show.
“You were 100% right and this doesn’t help my feeling that you have psychic abilities that I always thought you had. I told my mother, ‘Whoopi was right about everything including the timing.'”
McCain made the pregnancy announcement last weekend to her Instagram. “My husband Ben and I have been blessed to find out I’m pregnant,” she wrote. “Although this isn’t how I expected to announce my pregnancy, both we and our families are excited to share the news with you all.”
