Harvey Weinstein has been facing many personal and health issues this year. The former Hollywood film producer was found guilty of rape in the third degree and guilty of a first-degree criminal predatory sex act earlier this year.

Many were shocked by the guilty verdict, and even more shocked when he was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Some people feared that Weinstein would not be held accountable for his actions or that he would get a slap on the rest. However, his actual time in prison has been interrupted on several occasions by hospital visits.

Weinstein was supposed to be transported to Rikers Island prison immediately after found guilty. Instead, he was brought to Bellevue Hospital in New York City. After the verdict, Weinstein complained of chest pains and was brought to the hospital to watch for high blood pressure and heart palpitations.

After being admitted to the hospital, the former producer underwent surgery for a blockage of the heart. At the time it was considered to be successful and he was eventually released back to prison.

Once he did arrive at Rikers Island prison, reports say the former film producer was given special treatment. Weinstein was not held with the rest of the prison population, but was instead given an entire floor to himself. Sources say this was to keep him safe from other inmates.

After a while, Weinstein was given at least one cellmate, despite the floor holding several beds and being large enough to contain many other prisoners. Reports said Weinstein was being watched by guards.

Once again, immediately after learning of his 23-year sentence, Weinstein found himself back at the hospital for ongoing heart troubles and complications from a previous back surgery.

After his first visit to Bellevue Hospital, Weinstein's spokesperson asserted that the former producer was not using his health issues a way to escape prison time. Weinstein's hospital room was reportedly very prison-like, with a steel toilet and glass walls to allow hospital and security staff to see him as they passed by the room.

COVID-19

Weinstein is another of the rich and famous who has been diagnosed with the COVID-19 virus that has been spreading around the world in a global pandemic. However, Weinstein has yet to present with any symptoms from the virus and he is reportedly feeling healthier and healing from his heart troubles.

Before the sentencing, Weinstein's lawyers begged the judge to go easy on their client. They insisted that he would not be able to survive even five years in prison due to his poor health.
