Not that Kim Kardashian West didn’t already know, but it seems you can’t please everybody, even when you’re trying to do something good. Recently, the KKW Beauty founder announced on social media that she was going to be donating money to a charity that benefits low-income families. This move is exceptionally meaningful right now with people reeling from being laid off and without a steady form of income, in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. However, it’s not that Kardashian West is donating money, it’s how.
Even though Kardashian West seemingly lives in a completely different world than most people, she does have something relatable. She’s a mother, and the mother of four children. The Skims founder can relate to other women and families in that facet. Well, as a result, she wanted to make a donation that would benefit families during this difficult time.
Taking to Instagram on Monday, March 23, Kardashian West explained the reasons for donating money to the organization, baby2baby. The reality television star also explained how the charity helped benefit low-income families.
“As a mother, helping families in need during this time is especially important to me. @baby2baby is on the ground providing essentials to children and families impacted by COVID-19 and are working around the clock to get them diapers, blankets, hygiene products, school supplies and more,” Kardashian West began in her post.
She would go on to explain the donation would be coming from the aforementioned charity by means of profit sales to her Skims collection. According to the KUWTK mainstay, she’d be donating 20 percent of profit to the organization from the Skims sale.
“Today @skims will be restocking our most-loved Cotton collection and donating 20% of the drops profits to @Baby2baby’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Program to support their mission to provide basic essentials to children and families in need. Shop now at SKIMS.COM and enjoy free shipping on domestic orders over $75,” she said.
And therein lies the problem people had with the gesture. It wasn’t that she was donating to people who need it. That is wonderful. But she was asking people to buy her products during a time when lots of people don’t have a disposable income. Suffice it to say people didn’t take it easy on her.
One person on social media questioned why Kardashian West wasn’t just giving money out of her own pocket, despite her massive wealth. “Or you could just donate the money yourself, ?♀️,” they said. “Do you not have enough money to donate 100% of the profit lol.” Another chimed in echoing the same sentiments saying, “Or you could just…. give them a couple million directly.”
“Exactly with all the millions you have, you can give much more. And not promote your business, go sell all your designer clothes and donate the money, I can’t believe in these days people promote the business?,” yet another commented.
