Singer Miley Cyrus launched her very own Instagram Live show while she is quarantining at home amidst the coronavirus pandemic. The show, which has been extremely popular amongst other quarantined followers, has had celebrity guests video call in to speak to Cyrus about a myriad of topics. Last week we saw Cyrus speaking to pop-star Demi Lovato and seemingly mended fences over their lost friendship. Meanwhile, this week Cyrus welcomed model Hailey Bieber to talk beauty, and yet the conversation took a much deeper turn.

Cyrus began the episode of Bright Minded: Live With Miley by talking beauty. She was going to demonstrate how to create the perfect lip with a variety of lipsticks and make-up tools in front of her, and let everyone know that she was having famed beauty Hailey Bieber join the call to add her very own make-up tips and techniques. The conversation started light and fun, as Hailey discussed her tips for adding light make-up, which is her preference on her days off from modeling.

But then the conversation slowly segued into a deep dive on religion, with both women openly acknowledging their own spirituality and connections with God. Hailey discussed her proud Christian upbringing and the fact she is happy her parents raised her in the church. She shared on the IG live show, “I think there’s a difference between being raised in the church and being an adult and having your own relationship with God and Jesus and spirituality because what my relationship was with faith getting raised that way is completely different than me in my own journey as an adult. I found a church community that works for me, where I feel supported and loved and accepted.”

Miley eventually shared her own personal feelings on the topic, opening up about how she was raised in the church, too, but as she grew older had a tough time with her own relationship with spirituality. Cyrus went on to say, “I had a hard time finding a relationship with God that worked for me as an adult. I think what I just took away from you is I’m allowed to decide what my relationship is with spirituality as an adult that doesn’t have to be aligned with the way that it was when I was brought up. I had some gay friends in school. That is the reason why I left my church is that they weren’t being accepted. They were being sent to conversion therapies… I had a hard time with me finding my sexuality too.”

Hailey, who was as poised as ever, added her own reassurance to what Miley felt by saying, “I think it’s about your journey between you and God. It’s not your journey and 10 other people’s journey. It’s just yours. It’s been you and Him. I believe that Jesus is about loving people, no matter where they are in life. I’ve always had a hard time with church making people feel excluded and not accepted and they can’t be a part of it because of what they believe in and who they love.”
