Kim Kardashian is getting slammed. The 39-year-old reality star and SKIMS founder has not made any headlines for personally donating to the coronavirus relief effort – Kim did, however, update her Instagram on Monday with a promotional post for her 2019-founded shapewear and clothing line, confirming that SKIMS would be donating a percentage of profits towards a COVID-19 emergency relief organization.
The update wasn’t even an hour old before the fan backlash poured in – quite simply, Instagram seemed to feel that a woman with $350 million to her name should be forking out some cash herself.
Kim’s photo showed her in all-white SKIMS clothing as she sat on her bed in a revealing tank top, shorts, and socks while on the phone. A caption accompanying the image announced a SKIMS re-stock, plus some charitable efforts.
“As a mother, helping families in need during this time is especially important to me. @baby2baby is on the ground providing essentials to children and families impacted by COVID-19 and are working around the clock to get them diapers, blankets, hygiene products, school supplies and more,” it began, adding that SKIMS would restock today:
“And donating 20% of the drops profits to @Baby2baby’s COVID-19 Emergency Response Program to support their mission to provide basic essentials to children and families in need.”
Kim had concluded her caption by encouraging fans to “Shop now,” but the response didn’t see too many users keen to stock up their carts.
“Or you could just donate the money yourself ?♀️,” a fan wrote.
Over 370 others liked the comment within 30 minutes of it being posted.
“Do you not have enough money to donate 100% of the profit lol” another said.
“Or you could just…. give them a couple million directly” was another comment, with a further user writing: “Open your wallet.”
Elsewhere in the family, 22-year-old makeup mogul Kylie Jenner has been pleading with fans to follow advice from the U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Jerome Adams. The Kylie Cosmetics CEO and billionaire made headlines recently for taking to her Instagram stories and pleading with fans to social distance – Kylie also said that her own concealed pregnancy prepared her for quarantine.
While Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, plus Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have both donated $ 1million to coronavirus relief efforts, the Kardashian-Jenners have yet to make a donation announcement.
Kim has opened up regarding the virus. Speaking on Instagram from her quarantine Calabasas location, the star said:
“Miss my sisters but we are all social distancing and staying away from each other all separately self quarantined.”
“It’s hard but we have to do this for our safety and for everyone else’s. PLEASE do not ignore the severity of the warnings to stay inside to stop the spread of this virus. We will all get through this! #TogetherApart,” she added.
Kim ordered Beignet Box donuts this weekend for 85-year-old grandma Mary Jo, also stating that she loves supporting local businesses during this hard time. Kim’s own KKW Beauty brand has halted the launch of its latest release.
