Cardi B has a theory about the novel coronavirus – in particular, with regards to the high turnout of celebrities testing positive. The “Money Bag” rapper took to Instagram for another of her legendary rants over the weekend – alongside questioning the government’s response to COVID-19, the 27-year-old called out (but did not name) famous faces, accusing them of getting paid to announce they’re positive.
The footage comes as Cardi continues to make headlines after her initial “Coronavirus, Sh*t is getting real” rant was remixed by iMarkkeyz only to go viral and enter the iTunes charts.
Cardi’s Instagram Live saw her query a hypothetical situation where she’s positive.
“Let’s say if I have the coronavirus right now. How am I supposed to know I got it because sometimes I be like, ‘If y’all have a cough, you have it,’” she began.
“But then I be seeing these basketball players say like, ‘Yeah, I have the coronavirus, but I don’t got no symptoms.’ So how the f-ck am I supposed to know when I’m supposed to get tested for it? Y’all ni–as is playing with me. That’s my problem right there,” the star continued.
Cardi was likely referring to the high number of NBA players testing positive – these include Utah Jazz players Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert, plus Detroit Pistons player Christian Wood and 31-year-old basketball star Kevin Durant.
“I’m starting to feel like y’all ni–as is paying ni–as to say that they got it,” she added, continuing:
“And if y’all are paying ni–as to say that they got it, pay me too. B-tch tryna get paid.”
Cardi recently made headlines for initially claiming she wanted to get paid as her “Coronavirus, Sh*t Is Getting Real” remix went viral. The Latina has since confirmed she would be donating proceeds to help the COVID-19 relief effort.
Elsewhere, Cardi targeted the U.S. government‘s response, also referencing Wuhan, China, where the virus originated.
“Are y’all spraying s–t in the street, are y’all gonna one by one take our temperature to see if we got it? How am I supposed to know that I have the coronavirus?” she said, adding:
“When they put Wuhan, China, in quarantine… they were spraying s–t in the streets. They were knocking on each door taking people’s temperature.”
The virus’ epicenter is now in Europe, although U.S. cases prove increasingly concerning as an estimated 5% of all cases are in New York.
Mid-March marked the first major celebrity face confirming a positive diagnosis: 63-year-old actor Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson revealed they were sick, although just today, the “Cast Away” actor made headlines for saying he and Rita “feel better.”
Also testing positive have been British actor Idris Elba, “Bachelor” alum Colton Underwood, media personality Andy Cohen, plus two “Game of Thrones” stars. Ukrainian “Bond” girl Olga Kurylenko and “Younger” actress Debi Mazar joins them, as does newly-imprisoned Hollywood producer and rapist Harvey Weinstein.
