Actor and producer Matthew McConaughey is honoring not only the kids in America but his mother’s profession, donating upwards of a million dollars through a foundation helping young people grow their mind and body connection through fitness, nutrition and other wellness techniques, according to Cheat Sheet

McConaughey, who hailed originally from the Piney Woods of East Texas, is the son of an oil pipe supply business owner and kindergarten teacher. He and his two older brothers attended school in Longview, Texas and also spent a year as an exchange student in Australia in 1989.

Since finding fame through movies like Dazed and Confused, Angels in the Outfield, and more recently We Are Marshall and Dallas Buyer’s Club, McConaughey has put around $1.5 million into his foundation called “Just Keep Livin’.”

According to Cheat Sheet, the foundation was partially inspired by the passing of McConaughey’s father and is “based on the idea that part of living is about giving back. In addition to creating things you love with the people you love, Matthew firmly believes in helping others and in being a good neighbor.”

In the “About Us” section of the foundation’s website, McConaughey’s Just Keep Livin’ Foundation states that, “While filming Dazed and Confused, Matthew McConaughey was struggling with the passing of his father. It was during this time that he was overtaken by a saying that would soon change his life: ‘just keep livin’ or ‘j.k. livin’ as it’s called.”

The webpage continued the story saying that, “As life continued forward, he found that the just keep livin approach helped him navigate through the good times and bad times, stay true to his ideals, and make the best out of this adventure we call life.”

“The just keep livin' foundation is based on the idea that part of living is about giving back. In addition to creating things you love with the people you love, Matthew firmly believes in helping others and in being a good neighbor.”

However, the foundation isn’t the only way that McConaughey has found to give back. Just recently, the Texas native partnered with the governor’s office to help Texans remember the best way to protect one another is to stay inside and away from their fellow Americans.

These are challenging times, but Texans are always prepared to respond to challenges,” Abbott said in a written statement according to Fox News. “I am grateful to all our medical professionals who are working on the front limes to limit the spread of COVID-19 and provide care to Texans in need. Now is the time for all of us to unite and do our part to protect public health in our communities. That’s why I urge all Texans to practice smart hygiene habits and social distancing – and if you can, just stay home.”
