Venus Williams isn’t spending her quarantine days stuffing her face with Doritos. The 39-year-old tennis superstar and sister to Serena Williams has been keeping her ripped physique up as she practices social distancing – while 38-year-old Serena announced her “solitude” approximately two weeks ago and appeared in a Nike-delivered message today on Instagram, Venus has yet to make any major announcements.
Venus’ Saturday update marked the star’s first since coronavirus really sped up Stateside– while COVID-19 was alive and well when Venus last updated on March 5, the virus had yet to see people’s lives change as they have in the U.S.
Venus’ photo showed her solo and working out on a mat resting on a wooden backyard deck amid lawn greenery and trees. The 7-time Grand Slam winner was working her core with both feet raised as she lay on her back, showing her sheer dedication as she was snapped crunching.
While the vibe didn’t seem out to flaunt the star’s physique, the muscle machine of a body was on show. Venus was stylishly outfitted in a blue spandex pair of leggings with print designs from her own clothing range, also rocking a matching sports bra showcasing her abs, plus white sneakers.
Venus took to her caption with a mention of the increasing lock-downs being put in place across the globe, also helpfully suggesting that if COVID-19 is keeping you at home, it doesn’t mean that you can’t keep fit. She then gave a shout-out to Peloton fitness app.
“With all gyms closing in most major cities, we still have to stay active. One of my favorite apps is @onepeloton , for at home work outs. Share with me some of your favorites! Stay active while you social distance and bring down the curve!” the caption read.
Venus may come lower-profile compared to 23-time Grand Slam winner sister Serena, but she’s got her fans – and they turned out in full force for this update.
“Looking great, Vee!” one wrote.
“BOOM!” another said.
“My daughter Kennedy says “Hi, Venus”? she met you in Toronto and took a pic with her brother & you in Yorkville. Thank you for stopping and making a young black girls day ??” was a lengthier response.
Serena, meanwhile, has been updating her social media from her home where she recently admitted side-eyeing 2-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia for coughing – Serena admitted to anxiety that was leaving her “on edge.”
Venus’ post today wasn’t a full-blown ad. That said, it did see the star influencing from her Florida location. Experts over at Vox have broken down the estimated earnings for social media influencers – pay on the platform directly correlates with following.
“Influencers with up to 1 million followers can get $10,000 [per post], depending on the platform, and 1 million followers and up, you’re getting into territory where they can charge $100,000. Some can even get $250,000 for a post!”
Venus has 1.2 million followers. Earlier this year, she got her promo on for Clorox, although the ad did leave fans somewhat stumped.
