It has been no secret that Marvel wants RDJ back in their movie franchises. Downey has been up and down as to whether or not he would be looking to return as Ironman. Going as far as to say that it would be better to retire on his own terms before he is basically too old to play the role.
It seems as if RDJ knows that he probably has a couple more iconic movie roles in him. He does not want to be remembered as the failed Doctor Dolittle!
At this point, it seems that it is certain that RDJ is going to be coming back for the Black Widow movie. Of course, this is probably going to be as part of a flashback. The movie itself is going to be one big flashback anyway.
It is not clear whether this appearance had already been contemplated in the last contract that Downey had signed when he did the last Avengers movie. If not this would actually be a starting point in a new working relationship.
According to multiple reports, one of the biggest reasons that RDJ is considering a return to the MCU is a chance to work with Tom Holland. RDJ allegedly has had a great time working with the British actor.
Of course, it also helps when you are making more money than the main star in the Spiderman films. At one point RDJ made 10 million dollars for a handful of scenes in Spiderman Homecoming. Those are pretty important reasons to want to work with Tom Holland.
How big exactly was the Dolittle flop? Dolittle was not the critical and box office darling that producers hoped it could become. Still, it was not the worst box office flop that we have seen in the last few years. That honor was for another movie. You probably also know which one that is, at this point.
Dolittle cost 175 million dollars to make. So far it actually made 227,917,508 dollars worldwide. At the end of the day, the movie made a profit.
There is actually another project that could see RDJ making a comeback as Tony Stark. This happens to be a TV series called Ironheart. The series follows a relatively new character in the Marvel Comics called Riri Williams. Who, is an MIT student who gets a hold of Tony’s technology and starts fighting crime with it.
The series is in production and set to be released on Disney +. This could be another project that Robert Downey Jr. would be involved in within the MCU.
