One of the most unfortunate realities of the coronavirus pandemic is the inability for people to purchase an adequate amount of food for themselves, whether that's a result of low-income restrictions or the danger of going out into a public space, as is the case with countless elderly individuals. A number of celebrities are hoping to change that narrative, though. International pop sensation, Rihanna, just announced that her foundation, the Clara Lionel Foundation, would be donating $5 million to assist in the fight to end the coronavirus pandemic and associated hunger.

"CLF is supporting on-the-ground partners working on the frontlines of disaster response especially those focused on protecting and serving marginalized communities – helping the most vulnerable in the United States, the Caribbean and in Africa prepare for what is to come," the foundation said in a statement.

"Never has it been more important or urgent to protect and prepare marginalized and underserved communities–those who will be hit hardest by this pandemic," Justine Lucas, Executive Director of the Clara Lionel Foundation, said on Friday.

Rihanna and her foundation's contribution will benefit Direct Relief, Partners In Health, Feeding America, the International Rescue Committee and World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, among a litany of other charitable organizations helping in the coronavirus outbreak.

The Clara Lionel Foundation also hopes to assist local food banks serving supplies to 'at-risk communities' where numerous elderly people are present. Additionally, Rihanna is aiming to accelerate the availability of testing in countries like Haiti and Malawi, while also providing crucial medical equipment to those working on the front lines and bolstering vaccine development.

Ryan Reynolds and his wife, Blake Lively, have also joined in on helping to eliminate hunger during the pandemic by donating one million dollars to Feeding America and Food Banks Canada. Reynolds took to social media this past week to share his message and what he hopes to achieve through the donation.

The 'Deadpool' posted an image on his Instagram account with the caption, "I think we can all agree, Covid-19 is an a--hole. If you’re able to help, visit, @feedingamerica and @foodbankscanada." The actor also urged people to 'Take care of your bodies and hearts. Leave room for joy. Call someone who’s isolated and might need connection'.

Lively also took to social media to announce that the couple was making a donation. Additionally, she asked people to be smart and self-quarantine, citing that people who were at the most risk for contracting the coronavirus wouldn't be able to help themselves if people didn't practice 'social-distancing'. "Though we must be distancing ourselves to protect those who don’t have the opportunity to self-quarantine, we can stay connected," she said on her Instagram account.

"Remember the lonely and isolated. FaceTime, Skype, make a video. Remember the love that can travel through all this," Lively added.
