Nicole Kidman will make her grand debut as Lucille Ball on December 10 in “Being the Ricardos.”

She’s faced a lot of criticism over being cast as the comedy legend.

Now, ‘Ricardos’ director Aaron Sorkin is sticking up for the Australian actress.

He told Kidman to forget everything she knows about the Hollywood icon, Lucille Ball.

“I’d made it very clear to them that I am not looking for a physical or vocal impersonation of these people.”

“Leading up to the first rehearsal, I’d write to them every day, ‘Just play the characters who are in the script.’”

Many fans were outraged “Will & Grace” star Debra Messing wasn’t cast as the “I Love Lucy” star.

Sorkin explained that he didn’t want just ANYONE to play the role of Lucille. He said it had to be “someone who absolutely owns it.”

“They’ll leave feeling that Nicole has made a very solid case for herself, but moreover, I’ve found that you can really leverage low expectations.”
