It's been 20 years since the first Harry Potter movie hit theaters. When successful film franchises reach a certain age, and they continue to be remembered and produce money for their brands it makes sense that people start thinking about revisiting those worlds. The director of the first two Harry Potter films Chris Columbus interviewed with The Hollywood Reporter to commemorate the anniversary of the film. He obviously was asked about the possibility of coming back to the "Wizarding World" once again. Columbus wasn't shy about sharing his thoughts and admitting that if given the chance he would love to revisit the franchise. He made a couple of comparisons though that may not make fans all too happy!

One of the reasons why former Harry Potter director Chris Columbus could be looking to get back into the franchise is the fact that he didn't get to cash in on the majority of the films. As we mentioned he was the director for films one and two. He was also on board as a producer on the third film. From there though, he essentially vanished from the franchise. Which means, that he wasn't really part of the bigger pay days of the franchise with the final two movies. Columbus talked about stepping away from Harry Potter telling THR,

"I wasn't seeing my kids, who were young at the time, growing up, I was missing dinners with them. I thought, 'I can't do another six, seven, eight years of this. My kids will grow up and I'll never get to know them."

Harry Potter and The Cursed Child has been a major hit in theater. The play has made its way to all of the main theater scenes across the world. Including Broadway, of course. For a while now there's been speculation that JK Rowling and Warner Brothers will eventually give the green light to take the story to theaters. As the first director that brought "the boy who lived" to the big screen, Chris Columbus would be an obvious choice for the film. At least through this interview he's putting himself out there as a potential candidate to occupy the directors' chair for a hypothetical film. He wants to see Harry, Hermione, and Ron all grown up in one, or even two films he mentioned

"A version of Cursed Child with Dan, Rupert and Emma at the right age, it's cinematic bliss. If you're a film nerd or cinephile" Columbus then added, "To be able to actually see these adult actors now back in these roles? Oh, yeah. It would be amazingly fun to make that film — or two films,"

A Comparison That Harry Potter Fans Aren't Necessarily Going To Like

In this joyous moment where he's talking about potentially coming back to the franchise Columbus essentially says that doing an all grown up Harry Potter movie would be like what JJ Abrahams has done with Star Wars. That's not necessarily the type of company you'd want, is it? He could have a point if he's just referring to the fact that fans go to see beloved characters like Han Solo back on screen. Modeling the rebirth of Harry Potter after the Star Wars newer movies doesn't seem like the best idea.
