Tom Hanks is keeping himself and his wife busy with gin rummy during their quarantine and recovery time at an undisclosed rented apartment in Australia, even though he is being soundly trounced at cards by Rita Wilson, his partner-in-quarantine. People who have been diagnosed with COVID-19, and are diabetic stand at a greater risk for complications because many infections thrive in high-sugar environments, meaning fighting off the Coronavirus for a diabetic becomes difficult. Tom Hanks was on the Late Show with David Letterman when he first admitted to having Type 2 diabetes, in a very anecdotal format. He said that his doctor said that all the high sugar figures he had been showing since his 30s, had now coalesced into him having diabetes. He further added that the doctor also said that he could avoid it if he went back to his high school weight, which Hanks cheerfully admitted: "was impossible, so he might as well have diabetes".

That said; the Coronavirus and diabetes diagnosis apart, they do say that laughter is the best medicine. So that is what Tom Hanks is dispensing through his social media, laughter, and smiles, even though he and Rita Wilson still have what they call "the blahs". With Hanks and Rita Wilson being the first celebrities to be diagnosed with Coronavirus, the world at least took heed and started to take it a little more seriously, even if Hanks is doing his best to elicit a smile from his fans.
