Serena Williams just updated the world on her quarantine status. The 38-year-old tennis superstar was one of the first major celebrities to self-isolate, announcing that she would be sticking to the four walls of her home on March 13.
Serena’s latest Instagram videos showcased a stylish array of tutus, but the 23-time Grand Slam winner wasn’t goofing around. Serena admitted that her coronavirus isolation had left her “on edge” over just about everything – one particular moment saw the former World no.1 admit that she’d even side-eyed her own daughter after she coughed.
The Instagram stories (seen below) opened with Serena standing in her home and sporting a balletic wardrobe – a light-colored t-shirt had been paired with a bold red tutu, and the ballet clothing switched up with each slide as Serena spoke to her fans.
Serena said that coronavirus had started with her feeling “like it can’t really affect me.” Canceled events had left her feeling “oh, ok, that’s weird,” but with all the cancelations, the star found herself in a state of anxiety.
Serena was in a purple tutu as she mentioned her own self-distancing.
“I’ve actually been self-distancing for a really, really long time,” she began: “For probably like, two weeks now,” she continued.
“Every little thing makes me really crazy,” the star confessed, continuing: “And my anxiety, I mean I’m just on edge every time someone sneezes around me or coughs.”
Admitting that she doesn’t “hang out with anyone,” Serena added that the “anyone” sneezing or coughing around her is 2-year-old daughter Alexis Olympia Jr.
“I mean my daugher. She coughed and I got ANGRY. I gave her a side eye. I gave her that angry Serena,” she confessed.
Serena has been sharing how quarantined life is going via her social media. As The Blast previously reported, the star’s early days in solitude saw her admit to being “useless” – Serena hadn’t cooked, cleaned, worked out, or even changed her clothes, although she did state that sometimes, “useless” is okay.
Serena’s official self-distancing announcement came via a makeup video, although the words were more about COVID-19 than glam.
“Spending the next 6 weeks in solitude. Being a wife. Being a mom. Cooking. Cleaning. Spring cleaning. Face mask. Makeup tutorials. I’ll let you know how it goes…. stay safe everyone. This is serious. ??,” she wrote.
Now a global pandemic, coronavirus has hit a new death toll of 10,000 just today. Cases are now confirmed in all 50 U.S. states, with the epicenter of the China-originated virus no longer being in the East. Europe is now the main hotspot, with the death toll in Italy now having overtaken that of China.
In the U.S., as elsewhere, millions are staying home amid panic, insecurity, economic instability, and the bare-shelved grocery stores you yourself may well have seen. Celebrities including Miley Cyrus and Kylie Jenner have been encouraging self-distancing, although others, such as model Lori Harvey, have found themselves slammed for appearing to party amid the highly-contagious virus.
