La La Anthony didn’t wait long to delete her Thursday Instagram update. The author and “Power” actress initially took to the platform in promo mode for her footwear collection – the 38-year-old’s post showed her posing in a neon setting as she showcased shiny new merch from her collaboration with Footlocker – “Anybody shopping while they are quarantined?” the star captioned her post.
La La’s post was less than an hour old before being removed, but comments slamming the New Yorker had already come in.
La La’s photo was a power one. It showed the star seated on a fluorescent-lit bench amid a likewise glowing backdrop as she shot the camera a knowing gaze – La La herself was stylishly outfitted in green-and-black leggings with a matching jacket. The actress wore her long hair in braids, also sporting footwear from her range – of course, this fashionista had ensured it matched the clothing.
A caption opened: “Anybody shopping while they are quarantined?” before letting fans know that the merch was available at Footlocker.
Initial responses caught by The Blast captured mixed reactions. While La La’s diehard fans seemed both pumped for the drop and out to send her the thumbs-up over the shoot, others were less keen – coronavirus now being a global pandemic has claimed over 10,000 lives, with confirmed cases in all 50 U.S. states.
“@lala..people need food right now. This is the time to love each other. Material things shouldn’t matter. Spend your money feeding a child that won’t have a meal right NOW,” a fan angrily replied.
Other replies echoed the above sentiment, with one fan rather bluntly replying that Footlocker was closed “anyway.” The retailer may be continuing its online sales – with no location provided by the fan, it’s hard to say whether they were being literal about the store closure.
La La was also told that dropping promo at this time was in poor taste, something that 50-year-old “Dinero” singer Jennifer Lopez recently faced as she announced the launch of her new shoe collection. J.Lo’s fans proved unimpressed.
The death toll from COVID-19 just keeps on rising – every time we check it, we’re further shocked and saddened.
As to celebrities seeing a business opportunity from the virus, there have been few – Kim Kardashian even postponed the launch of her latest KKW Beauty drop on account of the virus – but Scott Disick has been investing. The 36-year-old ex to Kourtney Kardashian’s Talentless clothing line recently unveiled “PLEASE WASH YOUR HANDS” hoodies. They retail for $129, with Talentless enlisting the help of Kendall Jenner and mom Kris for the promo.
