The pair, who are known for their disagreements and heated discussions, were separated by Goldberg’s decision to remove herself from the ABC studios, thanks to some earlier issues with her lungs.
TV hosts, like all Americans, are facing the decision as to whether it’s wise to be around anyone they’re not regularly exposed to in the face of a worldwide respiratory viral pandemic.

However, in the case of McCain and Goldberg, their dispute over political issues spanned the physical gap of Goldberg moderating from home when the show took on the issue of President Donald Trump and whether he is politicizing the virus.
Temporary co-host, Dan Abrams, said that they left shouldn’t get too hung up on the issue, and Sara Haines said that the president is politicizing the issue to an unacceptable degree when he attached a country’s name to the virus.

“As we’ve seen, people start punching people, Asians folks out. We need to stop labeling it like they did it to us,” Goldberg said, going on to say she believes that, “Mother nature really did this to us.”
McCain, however, wasn’t on board with the humanization of where the virus originated and didn’t even allow Goldberg to finish before interjecting saying that the virus did, in fact, originate within China, seeming to lean away from the moderator’s opinion that it was simply the fault of “mother nature.”
“I think if the left wants to focus on P.C. labeling this virus, it’s a great way to get Trump re-elected,” the conservative co-host said. “I don’t have a problem with people calling it whatever they want. It’s a deadly virus that did originate in Wuhan [China].”
Goldberg jumped in to add, “We shouldn’t be pointing fingers at people. We shouldn’t stereotype it.”
The pair went back and forth, both citing technical problems for their lack of what many would consider average communication skills, and neither agreed with the other’s point of view.
The reason for the 63-year-old Goldberg’s physical absence from the studio was due to caution over a serious lung milady that she previously suffered.
“I had pneumonia, and I was septic. Pneumonia in both lungs, which meant there’s fluid, there was all kinds of stuff going on,” Goldberg said according to The Washington Times
The situation was reportedly so serious that Whoopi said “Yes, I came very, very close to leaving the Earth. Good news: I didn’t.”
On the March 18, 2020 episode of “The View,” co-host Sunny Hostin explained that Whoopi was consulting with her doctor that day, and said “She wants everyone to know she feels fine and plans on being back here tomorrow.”
