Jax Taylor opened up about the pastor he and Brittany Cartwright initially chose to marry them after the latest episode of Vanderpump Rules featured the two of them being married by NYSYNC singer Lance Bass.
While chatting with producers on the latest Vanderpump Rules: After Show, Taylor weighed in on Tom Sandoval’s decision to accuse him of waiting to fire the controversial pastor until after Lisa Vanderpump spoke to him and Cartwright.
“I think he was 120 percent wrong the way he handled that. He came at me in front of God and everybody,” Taylor explained.
In his own chat with producers, Sandoval explained why he chose to confront Taylor about his failure to fire the pastor until after Vanderpump called him and Cartwright to chat about his controversial posts on social media.
“I wanted to say something to Jax and this pastor and things that he said and him using his soapbox to be transphobic and homophobic, tell people they’re living in sin and all this stuff. I thought it was very disturbing and fundamentally went against what we all stand for,” Sandoval shared.
According to Taylor, it was his wife Cartwright who chose their initial pastor.
“Brittany said, ‘Listen, I would like to have our family pastor.’ You have to understand, they’re from middle-America, the Bible belt. [They have] very hardcore values. [They are] Christians, which is okay,” he noted.
“God is about loving each and everyone one of us,” Lisa Vanderpump, who was seated beside Taylor, interjected.
Taylor went on to say that after learning of past posts made by the pastor, in which he spoke out against the LGBTQ lifestyle, he and Cartwright met with the man.
While Taylor and Cartwright initially believed that there was just one thing that was controversial, Vanderpump eventually informed them that there were more offensive posts shared by the man that was first hired to marry them.
“They were devastated. So I knew that they had no idea [about the additional posts]. When other people attack them, saying, ‘It’s only because Lisa Vanderpump said that,’ it wasn’t that. They were totally unaware. That’s why I always stood in their defense. I was the one that enlightened them,” Vanderpump explained.
When a producer asked Sandoval if he thought it was possible that Taylor and Cartwright were unaware of their pastor’s additional posts, Sandoval said the posts were “all over the place.”
“To act like they didn’t know about these things when I’m getting bombarded with it and it’s not my wedding. It’s not my pastor. I thought that was kind of strange,” Sandoval said.
Taylor went on to slam Sandoval for verbally attacking him and making his wife cry before “insulting [their] beliefs.”
