Last night’s episode of “The Masked Singer” featured the Group A Semi-Finals and featured two eliminations. After the Jester was unmasked, the Pepper was the second to be eliminated, leaving only the Bull and the Skunk headed to the finals.
Judge Robin Thicke had a first impression guess of Carly Rae Jepsen; however, he changed his guess to Mandy Moore. Judge Jenny McCarthy-Wahlberg first selected Lana Del Rey but changed her guess to Dido.
Although judge Ken Jeong hit the “Take It Off Buzzer” during the episode because he was “one-thousand percent sure” that it was “Waitress” star Sara Bareilles, he was proven wrong. This is the first season where the “Take It Off Buzzer” was implemented in order to put a twist on the competition. If a judge was able to hit the buzzer and correctly identify the performer, they would have to immediately unmask.
Although he initially guessed Kesha and his guess of Bareilles didn’t pan out, Jeong stole Jenny’s guess from weeks ago and said Pink. Judge Nicole Scherzinger decided to stick with her first impression guess of Natasha Bedingfield. Guest panelist Will.i.am went with a guess of Sia.
Host Nick Cannon unmasked Pepper to prove Nicole’s guess of Natasha Bedingfield correct.
Bedingfield, 39, received overnight success with her 2004 single “Unwritten” and followed it up with 2007’s “Pocketful of Sunshine” which was spoofed by Emma Stone in her 2010 comedy “Easy A.”
Why Did Bedingfield Perform On ‘The Masked Singer’?

After her unmasking, Bedingfield told the judges that she performed on the show for her son.
“My son, he had brain surgery just before the pandemic,” she shared. “He’s three. We were like five weeks in the hospital…you go through something like that and you see, like, just how many strong people there are, and it makes you stop caring about things that you used to care about, you know?”
When Jenny asked how her son was doing now, Bedingfield replied, “He’s so incredible. Perfect. Yeah, he’s great. And his favorite color is red,” she said, gesturing to her bright costume.

In a recent interview, Bedingfield was asked which song was her favorite to perform. She revealed that she only sang three songs, but she liked that each one was “unique” and “a challenge of its own.”
However, she really liked her performance of “No Tears Left to Cry” by Ariana Grande. She explained that the song lets you “really see what a great singer she is, because it’s got a lot of range. It’s very low and very high. I had to move it up, make it a little bit higher, because my voice is quite high. I couldn’t sing as low as she does.”
She added, “I hope I did Ariana Grande proud. I hope she likes it. And also Harry Styles. I’ve never met him, but I think that song’s brilliant.” She also sang the Harry Styles hit “Sign of the Times.”
The Pepper wasn’t the only person unmasked last night. The Jester was also unmasked during last night’s elimination to reveal this punk legend.
“The Masked Singer” airs Wednesday nights on Fox.
