A comment left to Britney Spears' latest Instagram update has both suggested that the 38-year-old is under the influence of drugs and garnered an alarming number of likes.

Trolling comments left to the "Toxic" star's social media are nothing new – generally, however, the singer's 23.6 million followers have zero time to tolerate the haters. While worrying comments have been plentiful on Britney's social media as fans proved concerned over her mental health following a bizarre string of posts, the latest comment had nothing to do with Britney's posting spree (or weird British accent video).

Britney updated her account on Monday night. Opting out of the blush-pink backdrop that accompanied her 12+ posts sparking mental health worries, the star had chosen to pose amid white.

The photo showed Britney looking deep into the camera while wearing a cute, one-shouldered and orange dress with swirl fabrics. A black choker matched the star's heavy eye makeup, with a quick swipe to the right showing the "Womanizer" star striking a similar pose.

A caption simply sent thoughts amid COVID-19.

"Sending out prayers and love to all of the families in this hard time ….. God Bless you all !!!!"

Comments and likes came in fast for Britney's post – it currently sits at over 239,000 likes, even bringing in a like from 27-year-old singer Miley Cyrus.

Top comments included over 580 likes for: "Quarantitney I love you."

"Please wash your hair pls" was a comment garnering over 290 likes.

Oddly, a comment coming from what is likely a novelty account racked up 112 likes.

@korona_virus wrote: So this is what crystal meth does to you mh ?.

The comment also didn't go unnoticed.

Britney's fans were in no mood – then again, over 100 users seemed in agreement with the remark. While the singer's followers will regularly drag her out for unremoved eyeliner (the unbrushed hair seemed popular as a comment), they slammed the user.

"@korova_virus_ hope covid gets you," a fan wrote.

"@wicked.cye i have covid. ☹️," the user replied.

It is, of course, impossible to determine whether the account is a joke one or an actual confirmed case of COVID-19.

"you don’t have a profile picture. We’re all going to assume it would have been too embarrassing for you to show," another user said.

Britney's February and March social media has made global headlines. A long string of posts shared both very close together and appearing to show near-identical images had fans worried for the singer – Britney was already having it tough as she recovered from a broken foot caused by dancing barefoot.

That said, recent activity from Britney has seen her share happy moments – just this week, the star posted a video throwback of herself horeseback riding with boyfriend Sam Asghari. Photos from this outing had seen fans dub the singer "the most authentic" she's ever looked.

Elsewhere, the star has made headlines as 13-year-old son Jayden suggested that Britney may quit music as he stated he was fighting for #FreeBritney on Instagram Live. Concerns for Britney over her bipolar disorder diagnosis may be commonplace, but the meth is definitely outside the ordinary.
