Serena Williams just called herself “useless” during the first leg of the 6-week self-isolation she’s gone into on account of the novel coronavirus. The 38-year-old tennis superstar announced that she’d be cutting herself off from the exterior world last week – COVID-19 isn’t something the mother of one is going to risk getting.
As The Blast has previously reported, Serena documented the beginning of her self-isolation in a selfie video posted to her Instagram stories. Not having cooked, cleaned, worked out, or even changed her clothes, the 23-time Grand Slam winner dubbed herself “useless” – she did, however, state that “useless” is sometimes okay.
There’s been an update.
Monday brought a fresh Instagram update from Serena. The star had been photographed in a fluorescent setting thanks to edgy light bulb panels behind her, posing in a sporty wardrobe suggesting that the workouts she claimed to be craving were on the cards.
The photo showed Serena shot full length and posing with Bey hair as she swung her head to the side – skin-tight spandex leggings also flaunted Serena’s rock-hard legs, while a silver, metallic, and wet-effect t-shirt jazzed up the finish. Serena also rocked sneakers, throwing out some sass with her curly hair waving behind her.
Serena’s followers were right on this update, throwing the star over 40,000 likes in two hours. Comments likewise came in fast.
“Beautiful pic!” one fan wrote.
“Mood when you don’t have to play the tournaments you planned on pulling out of! ?? jk love you,” another said.
“U looking good Miss Williams ❤️❤️” was another comment.
Mentions of the coronavirus were made, though. “Thank you for promoting social distancing,” one fan wrote. Social distancing has, of course, been encouraged by other celebrities including singer Taylor Swift, plus reality star Lisa Rinna – she just did it naked and in her bathtub.
Serena made her announcement three days ago via a video of herself getting glammed up by a makeup artist.
“Spending the next 6 weeks in solitude. Being a wife. Being a mom. Cooking. Cleaning. Spring cleaning. Face mask. Makeup tutorials. I’ll let you know how it goes…. stay safe everyone. This is serious. ??,” she wrote.
Fans had already thrown Serena support via comments.
“❤️❤️❤️❤️ was making plans to see you at the Miami open one of my biggest dreams..,But I’m sure I’ll see you play one day ?????? Be safe Queen ?,” one user wrote.
The list of celebrities now confirmed as having coronavirus is rising. Last week saw 63-year-old actor Tom Hanks and wife Rita Wilson confirm that they’ve tested positive – both are in hospital and in isolation in Australia.
Joining Utah Jazz players Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert as being positive is Christian Wood of the Detroit Pistons. Ukrainian actress and 2008 “Bond” girl in movie “Quantum of Solace,” Olga Kurylenko is the latest famous face to have confirmed that she is positive with coronavirus.
