Rebel Wilson gets candid about her weight loss journey!
The “Pitch Perfect” star, 41, talked about her wins and the struggles she faced while shedding extra pounds in 2020.
“One of the emotions was that I’m sad I didn’t do it before,” Wilson told People.
She revealed that she “lost a lot of weight,” nearly amounting to 80 lbs last year.
“I’ve maintained it for this year. [So] part of me was like, ‘Well, damn! If I could have done it before, should I have done it?'” she said. “And I felt a bit sad about that point.”
Wilson said that it was because she doubted herself.
“I thought I was the person that [would] never do it. Like, yeah, I can lose a few pounds if I try really hard one week and be really strict with myself, but then I’ll always gain it back. So I never thought that I could successfully do it,” the actress explained.
Focusing On Health
She said she “prioritized” her health last year “for the first time ever.” While turning 40 at the time, she thought it’s “never too late to improve yourself or to improve your health.”
Wilson added, “I shouldn’t feel sad or beat up on myself because of that. I should just feel proud of myself for actually doing it.”
The “Hustle” star said her confidence was always high, and it’s not because of her weight loss. It’s due to the fact that she feels better with herself. Although, she admitted that she “emotionally eats” sometimes because of “stressful” events in her life that she couldn’t control.
“I’m not perfect, like, I still emotionally eat at times, there’s stressful things that still go on in my life and in my work that can be high pressure,” Wilson said, adding that she “learned to manage things.”
Wilson also recalled the time she didn’t get a role because of her size.
“When I was bigger, like, when I first started my professional acting career, agents would look at me and just be like, ‘No way,’ because I was overweight,” she shared. “And I was like, ‘You know what? I’m gonna take something that you think is a disadvantage — I don’t actually think it’s a disadvantage — and I’m going to turn it into my success story.'”
Despite the physical change, Wilson is still very proud of her “Pitch Perfect” character Fat Amy as she credits much of her success to it, saying it made her “famous internationally and [the role] earned [her] millions of dollars.”
She wanted to lose weight for health reasons and not for her career as an actress.
“People are beautiful at any shape or size, and I genuinely believe that,” Wilson said. “I just got to a point where I knew deep inside that I was engaging in some activities that were unhealthy.”
She also said that she has been “grateful to make these lasting changes. It just makes me feel overall better and I’m still the exact same person, just a healthier version.”
