We now interrupt your regularly-scheduled coronavirus coverage for some regular ole Kardashian news. Sort of.
Kris Jenner, 64, has said her “biggest regret” was having an affair while married to Robert Kardashian Sr. The multi-momager got super introspective about her past sins during the latest (and first!) episode of famed fashion designer Diane Von Furstenberg’s InCharge With DVF podcast. While Kris has been open about this before – both in her 2011 memoir and on a 2012 episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians – she’s really showing us an all new level of vulnerability with this one.
“I got married when I was very, very young,” she told Diane. “I met Robert when I was 18 years old.”
At the time they met, Kris was actually in a relationship with pro golfer Cesar Sanudo. As a part of her memoir, Kris admits that she and Cesar were actually engaged when she met the aspiring attorney, and that she cheated on him with Robert! AND Robert caught them in the act!
It worked out for the better, at least for a while.
“[Robert and I] dated for four years, got married at 22, sooner or later during my life when I was in my 30s, I had an affair and my biggest regret was the fact that it broke up my family.”
Everyone knows the Kardashians have a thing for athletes. If you happen to pick up a copy of Kris’ book for your social-distancing reading material, you’ll see her refer to a man named Ryan. She later admitted that this “Ryan” fellow is actually a former soccer player named Todd Waterman (pictured above).
Like a good lawyer does, Robert found out about the affair, and Kris says she “didn’t know what to do.”
“I had four kids, I was single. I didn’t know where I was going to live, I didn’t know what I was going to do. I didn’t know how I was going to make a living. It was the scariest time to be that young. I think I was 32 years old, and I had four children. My son was maybe a year old and it was scary. I was really, really scared.”
It was this rockbottom moment that ultimately became her turning point.
“I remember picking myself up by my bootstraps one day. I have deep faith in God. I just started praying that God would just strengthen me, give me that power, give me the ability to be in charge of my own life. It was my turn to really grow up.”
Grow up, she did – and if that’s not an understatement then we don’t know what is! A little while later she was set up with an Olympic star who was then named Bruce Jenner.
“We started dating and that happened really quickly and all that I noticed — and I’m sure he would agree with me — was that he wasn’t really taking advantage of all the gifts that he had. He wanted to be on the speaking tour and do all these different things.”
Kris assisted Bruce by “rolling up [her] sleeves and trying to figure it out.” The early-to-mid-series episodes of KUWTK captured many moments of Bruce speaking to packed audiences, so it’s safe to say that Kris figured it out!
And regarding the affair: in the words of the great Hannah Montana, everybody makes mistakes!
