Miley Cyrus Reason For Carrying Two Notebooks

As per her chat with Ulrich for Interview Magazine, Cyrus discussed several personal topics, particularly her penchant for going around with two notebooks.

"I have two notebooks that I take everywhere I go," the singer said. "One of them is filled with my morals, values, purpose, potentials, capabilities - and my commitments to others and myself. I'm constantly writing things in there."

Next up, she gave some insight into how her writing down of ideas helped inspire her "Nothing Else Matters" performance at a music festival at Glastonbury in 2019.

"Recently, I wrote down something very wise that I heard, which is related to your question," Cyrus said when quizzed about the lyrics of the song.

"It was about how lyrics are one of the most resonant aspects of a song and of why an audience connects with songs. It has to do with the words and to challenge that there's no difference between lightning and a lightning bug."

Cyrus added that the sentiment behind "Nothing Else Matters" aligned completely with her morals and values.

Miley Cyrus Says She Doesn't Have A False Voice

A trait peculiar to all Cyrus' songs is her raspy singing voice. Despite being a rare sound, many have thrown jibes at the singer tagging her voice as manly.

In the interview with Ulrich, Cyrus decried their actions and clarified that she does not have a false voice. She said, "My whole life, whether in vocal training or just continuing to hone my craft, it's always been about, 'Why do you sound like a man?'"

"I don't have a false voice. You know me personally, we've hung at parties. I am who I am. I say what I mean at the moment, even if that changes tomorrow. I was honored by the fact that I didn't have to sing this song [Nothing Else Matters] in the way that females are "supposed" to sing."

She added: "You can hear that at the end of the song when I take the gloves off and start flying. That part of the song really grabs people. It's that lower register of my voice. So I'm grateful to have a song where I can lean into that."

More About 'Nothing Else Matters'

"Nothing Else Matters" is not exactly a new song as Cyrus' version is only a cover of its original 1992 release. The dynamic track had a pool of renowned musicians come together and make it a success.

Top of the list was "Red Hot Chili Peppers" drummer Chad Smith and Elton John, whose respective drums and keyboard collabs synchronized beautifully with Cyrus' sonorous vocals.

Yo-Yo Ma's cello also added a background, spine-chilling feel to the cover, and Metallica's own Robert Trujillo thumped along with a sweet bassline. With Post Malone producer WATT mixing it all with his magic fingers, the new cover must have felt like an absolute hit even before its release.

In some sense, Cyrus' decision to cover the song served as a statement to solidify her switch to rock music. Fans can certainly expect to see more singles from her in the future.
