Jessica Simpson's relationship history is scattered with famous men that she dated or even married. Her relationship with Nick Lachey is among the most famous, in part because the two launched a reality show called "Newlyweds" shortly after they got married.

The show debuted on MTV in 2003, when Simpson was just 22. In a recent interview with Ryan Seacrest, Simpson explained how the show came to be, and the one major regret she has about how long it ultimately ran.

Simpson said that her dad and manager played a big role in her decision to do the show.

“My dad was like, ‘I really want people to understand you and know that you’re human because if they get to hang out with you while you’re on the couch, they’ll really understand who you are,'” she said.

The show gave fans an inside look at her relationship with Lachey, but by the third season, there were rumors swirling that the couple was on the outs.

“You could feel there was tension between the two of them,” "Newlyweds" producer Sue Kolinsky said in an interview with Complex. “They were very different people. He was a blue-collar guy—he did a lot of things himself, like he and his brother would build things. He was frugal, and she had excessive taste. In the end, they weren’t suited for each other. The only thing they really had in common was their music.”

Ultimately, Simpson filed for divorce form Lachey in December of 2005.

Simpson said that she doesn't ultimately regret doing the show. “It’s been the most empowering thing I could possibly do,” she said. “I do believe that doing Newlyweds is what made people … it’s what launched my brand.”

She said that if she could, she would definitely go back and do it all over again. “I just maybe wouldn’t have done a third season,” Simpson said. It seems like the show may have gotten a little too personal as their relationship frayed.

Simpson also told Seacrest that she has no interest in doing another reality show with her current husband Eric Johnson. “The moment I met Eric, I was like, ‘OK, these people can not come back to me,’ because I’ve let these doors open way too many times and it’s been so destructive,” Simpson said. “Once I met Eric, I truly changed everything.”

In recent months, Simpson has been candid about her struggles with addiction and alcohol abuse, and the way it impacted her life.
