Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wrapped up their farewell tour this week with a (tense, awkward, uncomfortable, insert any other negative word) appearance at the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey.
They both looked happy and radiant during all their engagements, especially in that made for t.v. movie shot of them walking into the Endeavour Awards in front of a rainy background.
However, pictures don’t always show the real story, and apparently there was a lot going on behind the scenes we don’t know about.
Unfortunately, The Crown will wrap up the show before we ever get to find out what happened during ‘Megxit.’
Things were tense at the Commonwealth Service and the world was able to see it from far away, no magnifying glass necessary. It was easy to see that things were not right within the royal family, especially between Harry and his brother William. Not only that, but things looked downright frosty between Kate and Meghan.
Body language expert Blanca Cobb told Us Weekly, “When you compare Harry and Meghan’s interaction with William and Kate to their interactions with the other people around them, it gives you a sense of, why would it be different and I think a natural conclusion would be, something is up.”
She continued, “Kate had zero acknowledgement when taking her seat near Harry and Meghan.”
It was a difficult conclusion to an emotional week for the Sussexes, not least of all Prince Harry who is leaving behind his whole life and everything he has ever known for a new life in North America. It will be a bittersweet day for him on March 31 when he will officially no longer be a senior royal.
Royal editor-at-large for Bazaar.com Omid Scobie was with the Sussexes in their final days as senior royals during the farewell tour, and wrote about it for the site.
He wrote, “To say they were crushed is an understatement. It’s a decision that the couple still feel wasn’t necessary, but also wasn’t a surprise, given the lack of support they received as they were relentlessly attacked by sections of the British press with almost daily mistruths and hateful commentary.”
Not only did he blast the British press, but he also went on to write about a lack of support for the Sussexes when it came to the royal family, something that surely won’t go down well with them, especially Prince William.
Though, it’ not surprising the Sussexes claim they weren’t supported, as it was rumored that William’s apprehension about Meghan was what set the once close brothers on the path to a feud.
It’s clear from what Scobie writes that the couple felt cast off to the side, with no support from any in the royal family as they battled the criticism they received.
Scobie wrote, “They knew something had to change, but they also didn’t want to stop supporting the queen. One can’t help but wonder if things might have been different if a family member or two had stood up for them during the darkest times.”
Now if that isn’t shots fired, I don’t know what is. Though the royals are trying to make it seem as if there is no rift between them and the Sussexes, it’s obvious there is.
Now, with Meghan and Harry living in North America with Archie, they’ll be farther away than ever, physically but also emotionally.
