The actress detailed her love for jewelry and how it translated into business investment and collaboration for this year's holiday season.

Kerry Washington Stores Memories Of Past Roles In Jewelry 

Washington told PEOPLE about how she values jewelry and saves a wardrobe piece for her character's as a keepsake when she finishes filming a movie or show.

The actress considers jewelry "most important to a character." She explained how a custom necklace with 'J' from her son's initials was made for her role as a mom in "American Son."

Washington told the magazine she saved some earrings from the wardrobe of her iconic "Scandal" character Olivia Pope. She also thinks a lot about jewelry when preparing for roles.

Despite mostly keeping her jewelry for the memory behind them, Washington said she wears them once in a while. Her love of jewelry also inspired her newest business partnership.

The "Scandal" Star Talks Latest Partnership With Jewel Label Aurate

According to PEOPLE, Washington's love for jewelry pieces has moved from saving memories to business investment.

The actress invested in the female-owned jewelry brand, Aurate and made her third capsule collection for the upcoming holiday season.

The partnership released "AURATE x KERRY Be the Lead Collection," boasting sustainable necklaces, earrings, and rings inspired by Art Deco and Old Hollywood.

Washington aims to bring sparkle into women's lives as they come out of the challenging pandemic months, so they feel like the lead of their own lives again.

The actress said her pieces have a classic and elegant edge and can be worn in different ways. While creating the label's 2021 holiday capsule, Washington drew styles from the '20s.

"We were really gravitating toward the return to the party, celebration, and glamour that happened a century ago," the star said about the sustainably sourced jewelry with gold finishes and touches of topaz.

Josephine Baker is a particular '20s icon that struck the mother-of-two, who she called the "the original hyphenate" that became the lead in her personal life and professional career as a performer.

The businesswoman told the magazine the intimacy of jewelry is one of her favorite things, adding that it also marks significant life events.

The "Django Unchained" Actress In Star-Studded Hulu Series 

Washington's latest partnership with the female-founded jewelry brand is not her first collaboration with a female team this year.

The 44-year-old starred alongside famous A-Lister Reese Witherspoon for the critically acclaimed Hulu mini-series "Little Fires Everywhere," The Blast reported.

The "Legally Blonde" actress was cast as Elena Richardson while Washington played the role of Mia Warren. The dynamic duo were also executive producers on the series. 

The series featured other powerful women as executive producers, including Lynn Shelton, Lauren Levy Neustadter, Liz Tigelaar, and Pilar Savone.

The critically acclaimed mini-series was set in 90's Shaker Heights, Ohio. It aired from March 18-April 22, 2020, and fans await news of a second season.
