For everyone who grew up listening to ABBA, as in “Dancing Queen”, “Fernando” and even “I Have a Dream” and not just on Meryl Streep‘s (screechy) soundtrack or Pierce Brosnan‘s awful baritone in Mamma Mia, there’s good news. ABBA is back. And when we say back, we mean with a brand new album, some 40 years after ABBA broke up.
The album is called “Voyage” and it’s quite the journey, considering it took four decades for them to reunite and give their fans something new.
The Divorce And The Breakup
ABBA was two sets of couples. The name, ABBA, came from the first initials of the four. Agnetha Faltskog and Bjorn Ulvaeus plus Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad. ABBA was also a palindrome. Just when the couples reached heights and began to earn a lot of “Money, Money, Money”, the couples divorced. In 1980, Falstog and Ulvaeus went their separate ways and in 1982, Andersson and Lyngstad split too. Post that, the couple found it tough to be ABBA and went their separate ways.
Of course, things have changed in 40 years and while the foursome may have found new love, the friendship remains. With Father time adding in a few wrinkles and pounds. But the magic of ABBA lies in their music.

First Came The Concert And The “ABBAtars”
“Voyage” was initially just a concert, but not just any concert. The foursome that makes ABBA are well into their 70s now, did not want to come on stage as is. Rather, they wanted to create the same magic they had when they came on to stage four decades earlier. So in came the “ABBA-tars”, digital recreations of the four band members and how they looked in their heydays. The four came into the studio and recorded their songs and dance movements with the help of CGI and green screens, and for the concert, all the fans saw were eerily lifelike digital recreations of all four.
But the experience of being together, in a room, for long hours made the band members realize they still loved making music together. And so after the concert, “Voyage” turned into an album, a new album by ABBA.

Fans Are All Ears For ABBA
What do fans feel about the new music from ABBA? Said one, “They are simply the best. Making such a come-back after almost 40 years, nobody did this before after such a success in the ’70s and ’80s. But in fact, they never left the scene.”
Another wrote, “The album is a masterpiece from start to finish. ABBA should be so proud of producing that after a 40 years hiatus. I can’t pick a favorite. We need to get Little Things to the UK Xmas No1.”
And there’s this, “I feel like such a bad fan for not listening to the album yet, I’m waiting for my copies to arrive (way too slowly) in the mail and I want the experience of listening to the album, so I’m not streaming and the anticipation is driving me crazy, please forgive me, ABBA.”
Even forty years later, ABBA has its fans. And despite all the new music, they still love ABBA to bits.
