Carrie Underwood is officially 37 years old today. The “Cry Pretty” singer, clothing designer, and author of her new “Find Your Path” book has yet to take to Instagram with a permanent birthday post, but she kicked off the day with a quick story as she shared her morning workout – it was a glowing shot.
Carrie has been fronting media outlets galore of late – her March 3-released diet, fitness, and lifestyle book has fans in love, and its accompanying Fit52 app has already proven addictive for some. Carrie’s latest photo was just one more reminder of what those workouts mean to her.
Carrie’s photo was a simple selfie. The “American Idol” winner was looking fresh-faced, if a little sweaty, and absolutely beautiful as she posed during her birthday workout – the speckled purple tank worn by the singer was likely from her 2015-founded Calia by Carrie athleisurewear line.
Carrie smiled for the camera without a scrap of makeup, also rocking her bombshell blonde hair in a workout-friendly pigtails look – the star’s hair was braided.
“THIS IS 37! BIRTHDAY WORKOUT IN THE BOOKS!” she wrote, also adding a digitally-placed birthday cake.
Carrie’s book is flying off shelves. The star herself has also been traveling across the U.S. to promote it – “Find Your Path” is subtitled: “Honor Your Body, Fuel Your Soul, and Get Strong With Fit52Life.”
Speaking to In Style about the “little moves” that make all the difference, Carrie said:
“That’s why Fit52, the health plan featured in my book, Find Your Path, and in my new fit52 app that I developed with my trainer Eve Overland, takes a week-by-week approach. When you have 52 chances a year to make it a healthy week, you’re less inclined to scold yourself over one bad day. It’s designed to help you stay on track while allowing you some grace.”
Carrie’s balanced lifestyle is a part of her identity these days, but it wasn’t always the case. 2005 saw Carrie win the fourth season of “American Idol,” and it brought body-image troubles as Carrie saw an online message board comment – “Carrie’s getting fat,” the troll wrote.
Carrie admitted that she let her “haters” become her “motivators.” The singer started checking food labels, logging her ellipitcal time, and dropping her calorie intake to just 800 per day. The average woman requires 2,000 calories a day.
Carrie’s In Style feature further saw her reveal that her fitness philosophies have changed as she’s gotten older – the mom of two was still 36 when giving the interview, but it was just a preview of an upcoming issue.
“I’ve definitely changed my approach to fitness as I’ve gotten older. In my 20s I was all about cardio and anything that made me sweat,” she said.
“Now that I’m 37 and have two kids, I’m focused on getting the most out of my workout time. I do lower-impact exercises with higher weights, and I try to maximize each and every rep. I like doing leg presses and weighted squats. These days it’s less about the burpees and sprinting around — my knees can’t always handle that,” Carrie added.
