Remembering Danny Tidwell, 'So You Think You Can Dance' Alum after Death

So You Think You Can Dance is a long-running reality dance competition that gives dancers from around the world the chance to become stars. Throughout the years, the show has seen some incredible dancers, and amazing moments as well.

One of the shows alums was a dancer by the name of Danny Tidwell. Sadly, Tidwell died in a car crash on March, 6th. At the young age of 35, his passing comes far too soon for such a talented individual.

Danny Tidwell made his first appearance on the third season of FOX's So You Think You Can Dance. The young dancer was first focused on jazz before putting on his ballet shoes at the age of 15. From there, Tidwell made his way to the American Ballet Theatre.

Once Tidwell took the stage, he almost immediately became a fan-favorite. His footwork, and elegance was constantly praised by the audience, and judges on the show alike, all those years of hard work were finally paying off.

Tidwell's Legacy

In a New York Times article from 2007, writer Gia Kourlas, makes an extensive article about the young, and promising Tidwell.

"If Mr. Tidwell is different from the other dancers on the show, the distinction has as much to do with his dignity as with his impeccable line and his ability to infuse slight choreography with authority, rare on such a talent show." praises Kourlas.

But it doesn't take a full article to showcase the type of talent Tidwell had, just watching him will do the trick.

But Tidwell's childhood wasn't all sunshine, and rainbows. In an interview, Tidwell recalls his bad habits as a child, and cites dancing as an escape, "When I was younger, I got into a lot of trouble. Getting the opportunity to dance really got me out of that." It was dancing that saved Tidwell, and also eventually led to his meeting with the lady who took custody of him when he was just 12-years old.

From a grass-roots dancer, to a stage watched by millions, Tidwell showed a masterclass in dancing.

After Tidwell's tragic, and untimely death, David Benaym, Tidwell's husband. took to Instagram to share his deepest thoughts about his death in a touching tribute:

"I will write more about you Danny, tell your story, continue your legacy, make sure that you are not forgotten, that you are celebrated. An angel with no wings you said you were, you were flying all along, and you’ll be our guardian angel from now on."

Many others took to social media to share their thoughts on his death as well. Danny Tidwell's love for dance, and incredible impact on the show, and in the community will never be forgotten.
