Appearing together on the small screen might have led to the demise of the marriage between Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson, but Simpson says she has no regrets. "We were newlyweds," Simpson told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show, "On Air! with Ryan Seacrest," according to a People magazine story. "It was our first time even living together. I was a virgin." The show, in which Simpson infamously asked, "Is this chicken, what I have, or is it fish? I know it's tuna, but it ... it says chicken," while consuming Chicken of the Sea tuna, documented Simpson's four-year marriage to Lachey, and ran for three years on MTV.

Simpson said that it was ultimately her father's idea that the two appear on the show. According to Jessica Simpson, Joe Simpson, her former manager, said, "I really want people to understand you and know that you're human." Lachey was best known as the lead singer of the boy band 98 Degrees and Simpson was known as a pop singer, although she appeared as Daisy Duke in the movie "The Dukes of Hazzard" in 2005, the year her reality series came to an end.

Simpson also told Seacrest she would "absolutely" do it again if she could travel back in time. "It's what launched my brand," Simpson told Seacrest. "Absolutely I would go back and do it all over again. It's never something I wouldn't do again, I just, you know, maybe wouldn't have done a third season." During the show's third season, it's last, "Newlyweds" showed a marriage that appeared rocky, even as Simpson vaulted more into the public eye with her starring role in "The Dukes of Hazzard."

In her memoir, "Open Book," Simpson said that she developed an emotional attachment to her co-star, Johnny Knoxville, during filming of the movie. Knoxville, who was best known for his role in the MTV series "Jackass," was also married at the time, to ex-wife Melanie Clapp. "It's funny, I know, because I placed such an emphasis on sex by not having it before marriage," Simpson wrote in her memoir. "After I actually had sex, I understood that the emotional part was what mattered. And Johnny and I had that, which seemed far more of a betrayal to my marriage than sex."

After the run of "Newlyweds," which was originally set to star Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley, who later backed out, came to an end, Lachey and Simpson separated, citing "irreconcilable differences," and divorced in 2006. Simpson, who started what is now a multimillion-dollar fashion brand, the Jessica Simpson Collection, in 2005, married former San Francisco 49ers tight end Eric Johnson in 2014. The two have three children, daughter Maxwell, 7, son Ace, 6, and baby girl Birdie, 10 months. Lachey has been married to TV personality Vanessa Minnillo since 2011.
