When Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna passed away on January 26, 2020, following a helicopter crash, the world lost two beautiful souls that can never be replaced. Kobe was an incredibly talented basketball player, and Gianna was keen on taking up the sport that her dad was mentoring her in. Sadly, along with others in the helicopter, they both passed away the same day. To say the least, it has been hard on Kobe’s wife, Vanessa, losing her daughter and her husband the same day.
Vanessa has been very open about her struggle with the grief that she is handling following GiGi and Kobe’s deaths. Recently, she posted an Instagram photo with her daughter’s basketball jersey along with her father’s. The caption read, “There is no #24 without #2. ❤️#GirlDaddy #DaddysGirl #MyBabies ❤️❤️ #OurAngels #KobeandGigi” The two shared a special bond through the sport of basketball, as she loved playing the same sport that her father did. After their passing, Vanessa even renamed the Mamba Sports Foundation to the MambaMabacita Sports Foundation.
In her latest Instagram post Vanessa poses with her three daughters in front of a beautiful mural that was painted in memory of Kobe and Gianna. It shows Gianna giggling as her father plants a kiss on the top of her head, which has a halo above it. Vanessa made it her new profile photo. Needless to say that it elicited quite a few emotional responses from fans. One tweet read, “Such a beautiful family ?? May God continue to be with them and give them strength along with the other families”
Many tweets and Instagram comments were left. Some included, “Two guardian Angels looking over them ?” Others said, “Your a beautiful family stay strong for each other??” On Twitter, some tweets include, “absolutely beautiful. I hope they’re doing great. This is uplifting as hell.” “Capri looks like baby Gigi and now I’m bawling. V and her crew are so strong,” another tweet read. Before changing the photo to her profile picture, Vanessa snapped a photo of Natalia in front of the mural for her winter formal.
Other family and friends had also commented on the Instagram photo of Natalia in front of the mural that was captioned, “❤️my babies. Natalia. #winterformal #together #family” Dwayne Wade and Khloe Kardashian both left red heart emojis as comments. Lisa Leslie, former WNBA star said of Natalia, “Gorgeous! Your twin.” LaLa Anthony said, “My beautiful girl” Lenny Kravitz simply left the word “LOVE,” while floral designer Jeff Leatham said, “So much Love and Beauty in this photo.” Sydney Leroux, soccer player said, “Soooo beautiful!!!!”
A celebration of life was held on February 24, 2020. That number was very significant to Vanessa. #2 was her daughter’s jersey number, #24 was Kobe’s when he played for the Lakers, and 20 was the number of years that Kobe and Vanessa were together before they were so violently ripped from the world. Thousands of people attended, Beyonce and Alicia Keys performed, Michael Jordan gave a tearful speech, and Vanessa wrote the most beautiful speech to her late daughter and husband.
