After years of rumors about feuds and tension in Buckingham Palace, and after so many headlines pitting the Duchess of Cambridge against the Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle finally decided to call it quits.
The couple stepped down as working members of the royal family in January, but they aren’t quite finished with their official duties, just yet. The Sussexes returned to the United Kingdom this week and many have wondered just how tense things will get now that they’re back.
Reports already hint at some hurt feelings now that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have returned to the UK. Sources claim Queen Elizabeth II is unhappy with Harry and Meghan for choosing to leave their infant son, Archie Harrison (referred to as “Master Archie” by the royals) at home in Canada. Reports said the queen had requested they bring him along when they returned.
Staff members have reportedly condemned Harry and Meghan for Archie’s absence, saying there is simply no excuse for refusing the queen to see her great-grandson.
Sources already hint at a meeting that could occur while Prince Harry is back at the palace. Reports claim the two princes, Harry and William, could meet to bury the hatchet over their supposed ongoing feud. Some say the brothers have always been competitive toward each other, but that they want to make amends now that Harry has moved so far away from home.
Obviously, such a move could ease the transition. But if the rumors are true, there is always potential for a heated meeting.
Of course, all eyes will be on Duchess Meghan during this entire affair. Many have shown support for Meghan during this ordeal, blaming the British press for treating her inappropriately during her time as a working royal. Still, the duchess has many critics who blame her constantly for pulling her husband away from the United Kingdom.
This dichotomy was obvious when the Sussexes returned to the UK this week. Fans cheered as they made their first public appearance since their split. But at least person bood the duchess.
Royal expert Angela Mollard claims it will be Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton who will help to ease tensions and make the reunion a successful one. Mollard described Kate as “pivotal” at this moment, citing how often Kate appears to smile and laugh for the cameras as an asset.
Kate has already been credited for holding the royal family together in Meghan and Harry’s absence. Sources say Prince William leans on his wife heavily for support and have described Kate as the queen’s rock due now that she has increased her workload to fill in the gaps.
