Ever since bursting onto the scene roughly ten years ago, Harry Styles has constantly shocked and awed fans with his addictive melodies, personality, and also his choice of wardrobe. Never afraid to push gender constraints or try something new, which was furthered to the highest degree following his split from band One Direction, Styles has become somewhat of a modern fashion icon. One of the most iconic things the singer has chosen to accessorize himself with is pearls, but why these particular wardrobe choices?

Since going solo, Styles' stylistic choices have been marked by deep v-neck shirts, skinny ties, skinny pants, boots, and various other things that he used in an attempt to define himself as an individual. However, following an appearance at the MET Gala in May of 2019 where he donned a single pearl earring, his style shifted even further avante-garde, experimenting with non-gender conforming silhouettes and accessories that would normally be constrained to the female form that Styles manages to pull of thanks to his unique savoir faire.

Beyond the single peal earring, which was a topic of discussion following the MET Gala, Styles went further into his clothing exploration. The singer began donning tank tops, big pants, floral suits, and a myriad of other much more experimental looks compared to his now relatively tame past wardrobe. With all of this aside, since being photographed back in December of 2019 with a full set of pearls on, Styles has seemingly never been out and about without them again.

In a candid interview with The Guardian, Styles revealed what he truly felt about gender-fluid fashion.

"What women wear. What men wear. For me it’s not a question of that. If I see a nice shirt and get told, ‘But it’s for ladies.’ I think: 'Okaaaay? Doesn’t make me want to wear it less though.' I think the moment you feel more comfortable with yourself, it all becomes a lot easier," the singer said during the conversation, elaborating on the thought process behind his outfit choices.

"A part of it was having, like, a big moment of self-reflection. And self-acceptance. I think it’s a very free, and freeing, time. I think people are asking, 'Why not?' a lot more. Which excites me. It’s not just clothes where lines have been blurred, it’s going across so many things. I think you can relate it to music, and how genres are blurring," the singer went on to explain. Clearly, suggested genders and clothing have no correlation to the genre-bending British pop sensation.
