Just when you thought the Nicki Minaj saga was done and over with, some startling news hits the airways. Nicki Minaj’s beau Kenneth Petty has been arrested on the grounds of not registering as a sex offender. To be quite honest it seems like Minaj cannot catch a swift break. One day it’s an almost cataclysmic dual with her husband, and her ex. Then, there was an entire Twitter war between her and Meek Mill which revealed some private information that none of the public needed to know, and now her husband is indicted. What in the soap opera is going on?
Apart from all the hoopla surrounding her life partner at the moment, it appears as if Minaj is going through a personal battle of her own. This is all to do with her self image, and arriving at the realization that she is no longer the most sought after star any more. Now, she receives more shine for her antics on Instagram than any of her actual music. The Queen of Rap is becoming familiar with what it feels like to fall into the shadows, and become an nostalgia inducing artifact of the past.
Clearly she is not handling that very well. But, who can really fault her. It is unimaginable the high someone gets after receiving a litany of accolades, unprecedented fame, and mostly positive opinions about who they are and what they do. Having that comfortable cushion caressing you every night for almost a decade, and then watching it go away so quickly has to be traumatic. At Least now she understands what it was like for the legend she criticized time and and again, Lil Kim.
Another interesting thing to mention is how her presence on social platforms has changed in recent years. Her constant posting and then totally leaving social media, illustrates that maybe she should do away with it all together. Getting her riled up might be harder to do versus her seemingly “insecure” counter part Cardi B., but it is obvious that saying anything critical about her does itch at her psyche. For anyone who doesn’t have a tough skin, and possibly a low self esteem places like the comment section are where you should avoid.
As for this Kenneth Petty debacle “The Barbs’ ‘, Nicki’s ride or die fanbase have from the beginning been “iffy” about this relationship. Litigations as to why someone on Minaj’s level would date a man of his caliber have flown out, as well as possibly Minaj feeling as if she must be married by a certain age. Was waiting longer to see what Kenneth Petty truly was about probably a smarter route to take? Yes, but Minaj like many women was likely a slave to that biological clock and did not want to waste her time.
