And the award for best ex-wife goes to? Jennifer Garner clearly still cares about ex-husband Ben Affleck and his well-being, and it goes farther than helping him be a good father. Apparently, she takes the time to help him in his career as well.

Gavin O’Connor, director of Ben Affleck's new movie The Way Back gave an interview to 34th Street magazine recently, and recounted a time when Jennifer Garner stepped in to push the movie forward when it seemed like all hope was lost.

It was back when Ben had fallen off the wagon, appearing drunk in public, and not doing well, when Jennifer called the director.

He recalled, “Just as we started prepping the movie, Ben fell off the wagon. So he ended up going to rehab, and I didn’t know if the movie was over.

He continued, "The studio certainly thought the movie was over. His ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, called me up and told me that when he went to rehab, he took a basketball with him. She said, ‘Gavin, he’s asking you, please don’t pull the plug on the movie. He really wants to do this.’”

Jennifer Staged An Intervention When Ben Fell Off The Wagon

Clearly, Jennifer is very convincing with her words, because that's all it took to get the ball rolling again.

Back in August 2018, Jennifer was seen arriving to Ben's house with a lawyer and a bible in tow and it was rumored she staged an intervention. She later drove him to The Canyon rehab facility, and a source told Radar Online, "She doesn't want her kids to grow up without a dad."

Clearly, Jen is a strong woman; to deal with raising three children while also trying to help their father deal with his alcohol problems is not easy.

The Movie Almost Didn't Go Forward

O' Connor continued in his interview, saying, “So he had about a week of detoxing because he really went off the deep end, and after a week, I was able to go see him. We spent half a day together and figured out a way to do this that will work for him because most importantly he needed to recover and needed to get his sobriety on track."

He continued, "That overtook everything. And then he got out the day before we started shooting. So we had a very raw, very vulnerable guy showing up for our first day of shooting.”

Ben Called The Divorce The 'Biggest Regret' Of His Life

Ben has given multiple interviews as of late while promoting his new movie. He told The New York Times, "The biggest regret of my life is this divorce."

He also claimed, "Shame is really toxic. There is no positive by-product of shame. It’s just stewing in a toxic, hideous feeling of low self-worth and self-loathing.”

It seems as if Ben has learned quite a few lessons in the last couple years. Hopefully, he won't be on his way back to rehab anytime soon. But, he clearly has someone to lean on in his ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
