Somewhere in the distance, Meek Mill is laughing, because Nicki Minaj’s husband was just taken into federal custody and hit with an indictment for failing to register as a sex offender after moving his residence to the West Coast.
According to a federal indictment, obtained by The Blast, prosecutors claim Kenneth Petty moved to L.A. County from New York back in July 2019, until it was discovered in November 2019 that he failed to register as a sex offender.
Petty was convicted of 1st degree Attempted Rape back in 1995 when he held a 16-year-old girl at knifepoint, and since then he has been required to register as a sex offender wherever he lives.
According to TMZ, Petty turned himself into U.S. Marshalls on Wednesday and is currently in custody. He’s due to face a judge later in the day where he will be officially presented with charges.
The date of November 15, 2019 is significant in the indictment, as it was the day Petty was pulled over in Beverly Hills. At that moment, officers reportedly discovered he had not registered as a sex offender, and Nicki Minaj’s husband was placed under arrest.
It appears the local arrest triggered officials to look into federal charges, due to Petty allegedly traveling between states.
Petty later bailed out on a $20,000 bond, but he was later charged for failing to register by the L.A. County District Attorney. He’s currently still dealing with the charge on the local level while now dealing with federal issues.
Nicki Minaj has long been a supporter and defender of her husband and his prior conviction, but the details of the Petty’s victim are truly terrifying.
According to court records from Kenny Petty’s 1994 rape case, obtained by The Blast, the 16-year-old victim explained to cops a terrifying situation in which she was allegedly abducted and violently raped by Petty.
The female victim told police that on September 16, 1994 in Queens, NY, she was walking down the street when Petty came up behind her and “placed a hard circular object” against her back and “made a clicking sound.” The victim believed Petty had a handgun against her body, and he instructed her to “keep walking.”
The two walked to an address down the street, and she claims Petty forced her upstairs into his bedroom by pushing her from behind with what she believed to be a handgun.
Once inside Petty’s room, the victim claimed he “laid his weight on top … pinched her sides and squeezed her neck causing her to sustain bruises and pain.” She then claimed Petty “forced his penis” into her vagina.
The victim claimed she tried to escape, but Petty “brandished a knife” and held it against her stomach, telling her “she could not leave.” The victim claims she eventually struck Petty with a plastic bottle and escaped.
Upon Petty’s arrest, he adamantly denied doing anything to the young woman.
Petty was charged with 5 crimes, rape in the 1st degree, sexual abuse in the 1st degree, unlawful imprisonment in the 2nd degree, assault in the 2nd degree and criminal possession of a weapon in the 4th degree.
He later pled down and was convicted of attempted rape in the 1st degree, and served 4 years in prison. Petty is still a registered sex offender, and must regularly check in for updated location information and photos as a warning to the public.
