ABC's vampire drama The Brides has found one of its title characters. Television and film actress Gina Torres is shaking up her acting repertoire once again. Over the past few years, Torres, 50, have starred in two of USA’s legal dramas ‘Suits’ (recently ended its ninth season) and its one season spin-off show ‘Pearson’ where she recently appeared as the fierce, legal shark Jessica Pearson.

On Wednesday, ABC announced the former ‘Firefly’ actress was poised to star in their reimaging of ’Dracula’s: The Brides’—a supernatural drama pilot from *Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina* executive producer, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.

’The Brides’ project is listed as a contemporary version of the Dracula storyline with three female leads. According to Variety, the show with strong horror elements would follow these immortal women and the things they do to maintain wealth, prestige, legacy, and their nontraditional family.

The ‘Pearson’ actress is set to portray Cleo Phillips, one of the three brides of Dracula in his vampire bride trio. Torres’ character, Cleo is a domineering woman that exudes a regal aura. Her royal presence understandably derives from the fact she was once a queen.

The vampire bride was turned by Dracula after her husband died. Her new role in the remake is a real estate maven in New York City who will undoubtedly face a variety of challenges as an immortal in a mortal world. Torres is no stranger to the ABC network. Prior to being tapped for this new role, she co-starred on the Shondaland drama series The Catch, also recurred on Revenge. The acting veteran other TV roles include shows like ‘Alias,’ ‘Angel,’ ‘Gossip Girl.’

Torres also appeared in two of the “Matrix” films as well as films like “I Think I Love My Wife,” “Hair Show,” and “South of Pico.”

ABC had given a pilot order for the series back in January. The soap drama is described as a family drama with strong horror elements. ‘The Brides’ was initially put into development at the NBC in 2015, however, that version was ultimately shelved.

ABC picked up the project because it fits in with ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke's stated goal of making ABC the No. 1 broadcaster for women again. Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter of Berlanti Productions will also serve as executive producers.

Maggie Kelly (Riverdale, American Horror Story) who has directed several episodes of Sabrina will direct the series written by Aguirre-Sacasa. It is unclear if there will be any remnants of the older versions previously released included in the remake. There also has been no air date for the “sexy contemporary” released yet though it may possibly appear in the network’s fall line up as a new show.

The Westworld actress is repped by Domain Talent, Framework Entertainment and Schreck Rose.
