The struggle for them raising their child hasn’t been due to the relationship woes the two had, but the health complications Jack has dealt with since the moment he was born, resulting from cerebral hemorrhaging and other issues surrounding his premature birth.
Since those struggles, though, both Faris and Pratt have spoken out about the difficulties of raising Jack, as well as, the blessings.
When Jack was born two months premature, both Pratt and Faris were fearful that there would be lingering issues and potentially, he may never leave the hospital. In Faris’s memoir, she wrote about the underlying fear and uncertainty during that time in their lives.
“The pediatric neurosurgeon sat Chris and me down to tell us that Jack had some severe brain bleeding and there was a chance that he could be developmentally disabled,” Faris recalled. Unfortunately for the couple, they’d have to wait 18 months before they’d know if there were any developmental issues.
After the exhaustingly long 18-month waiting process, the couple received some good news. For the most part, there were no major issues with Jack. While he did have some vision issues and a problem with the muscles in his legs, everything else seemed to check out fine.
He would require some surgical procedures to make corrections, but he was expected to make a full recovery and live a normal life.
“When Jack was born two months early, it came as a huge shock. And suddenly, your world completely shifts,” Faris said on Jimmy Kimmel’s podcast, Unqualified. “Jack had a few surgeries. He had a few hernia surgeries, he’s had a few eye surgeries, and he had a little heart issue as well.”
There seem to be no hard feelings between the two parents, though, as Faris has been highly complimentary of Pratt and how he worked hard to make her life as great as possible during the struggles with Jack’s health.
“He decorated my room with posters and photos and he came to the hospital every night after work with desserts for me and, sometimes, a six-pack of beer for himself, and he’d just sit with me and hold my hand or crawl into bed,” she continued in Kimmel’s podcast.
Not only is Jack growing and healthy now, but it made Pratt and Faris realize that the issues their son suffered through are not limited to only them and their situation. The couple decided to team up with the Global Alliance to Prevent Prematurity and Stillbirth, in order to raise awareness and provide support for other parents and families dealing with similar instances.
Now with Pratt remarried to Katherine Schwarzenegger and Faris set to be married, there will be all the more love to go around for Jack as he continues on through his childhood like a normal kid. Based on accounts, Jack seems to enjoy that.
